Sit right back and I'll tell you a tail...

AS-Lulupea does just that. From its entertaining readme to the well mapped objectives, the SS Lulupea is a full out assault map based on infiltrating an enemy space ship. From the time you spawn to the ending sequence, this map provides a superb ride. Even while defending, one can watch a good space battle raging in the upper atmosphere of mars . Don't mind the pounding of balistic missiles against the hull or the attackers trying to destroy the secret weapon , there's plenty of mapper magic through out the entire map. From the extensive use of close circuit monitors, to warped textures, this map has more than just a trick or two. Even if you don't play assault, mappers will find this level as valuable reference material.


And what if you do play assault? Hee hee... you'd have to be the Stainless Steel Rat to get all the objectives the first time out. Partially because Bot AI isn't all that it's cracked up to be, and second, the sign that says "WARNING! don't shoot the nukes is pretty hard to resist. Several avenues of attack and defense are available. The map runs fairly linear from the cargo hold to the bridge, just as you would expect. What isn't expected is the spawn rooms for both teams. The agressers spawn in a T-port chamber to be beamed into the SS Lulupea's cargo hold. Defenders start in a red dome presumably somewhere else in the Lulupea, and have there choice of 3 main destinations by means of transport holes in the floor. The defenders spawn points are then choked off as the last objectives are fullfilled.


Not many mappers put this much effort in their work. Perhaps some will say this map is "too gimmicky". All I have to ask is, how many gimmicks does it take to make the house you live in your home? It is precisely this kind of detail level, above base architecture, that make some maps great. Assault being the most demanding form of UT map, this map rates as great.

Sorry T, can't agree with you on this one... space battle was a nice idea. Good combination of 'gimmicky' things give it some interactivity. Otherwise, everything else is a cut below.

The gimmicks made it OK... especially WARNING: DO NOT SHOOT THE NUKES. What the hell do you think I'm gonna do, leave them alone? :D Hope I don't jump on an assault server playing this cause the nukes will go BOOM :D

Just because this map "took a lot of effort to get made" doesn't mean it's worth a 9. That's like saying "it's good for his first map".

T, by scoring this a 9 you're saying that it's above Epic quality. This is a good map, and it did make me smile, but I knew it was not above Epic quality when I noticed that the author neglected to turn off his HUD display for the taking of the opening screenie. It's better than a lot of author made AS levels out there, but it's not a 9.

This map is a mix between very good and very bad. Good: -There is a lot of attention to little details and a scenario. -The space battle is perfectly rendered -There's a lot of work overall Bad: -bad texturing(bad textures,wrong scaling,etc...) -bad geometry (square boxes everywhere,high polycount) -bad gameplay -general uglyness Author:Redo your map,put attention in texturing. Remove those ugly things and gimmicks you have put everywhere (like in the defender spawn room...what is it?).You could make it a winner.

Definetly not a 9 man. If this isnt big enough, download AS-Planeshifter, 8 megs, incredible architecture, and genius layout. Bots are bad though. The map must have taken at least 6 months to plan, then construct. This map has the looks part down, but it just isnt fun to play.

It would get a ten, but........

The bots are incredibly stupid. But that's somehow funny in a nuke room.

This map has crashed my computer more times than any other map put together (which even then in quite rare). Yet here I am, still playing it.

he put a lot of effort into the map, but it is only fun the second time you play it (the firt time ur wondering around going wtf??? the second time is when u get the hang of things, and the third time it is old)

ERM...This is a good map, very good imaginative story line. But, a bit boring. Not enough decoration. The best bit in the map as it says in the review is the 'WARNING don't shoot the nukes' sign. Great fun!

Nukes are fun. The robots are incredibly stoopid though. over all good level. if u only had 50 kb left on ur hard drive, i wouldn't download this though. its just one of those levels that is fun to play.

9 is a little high.

while the spacebattle is innovative, it's boring to watch. the nukes, well, I think there's a problem there...mainly, they're FREAKING NUKES! you destroy them, GAME OVER! but, that's not how you did it, is it?

architecture...I felt a little bit of an homage to Deck16 in there, but honestly...I got lost several times. Also, transport exits when you're defending need to have their own space...I got telefragged about 3 times while trying to move about. Also the lift at the end, in the bridge area, moves WAY too slow.

Now the good: I love the "shelf areas" in the central room with the ramps...good to snipe from...a little open, but there weren't many bots to get by me. Oh yea, bots play it well, and I could see this map as fun online too, but I don't play online much for lack of good servers. The textures look great, the backdrop is excellent, overall, good job...but due to the fact I prolly won't play it ever again, you'll get a 4 from me. Sorry.

Ugh. This is the highest review rated assault map? The goodies make it a little better than average. Skorch did AS-CastleAaarrggh (sp? ;)), which is an absolute masterpiece, but this is not.

Great atmosphere! I love how you can watch the space battle outside through the various cameras in the level, and how the ship occasionally gets hit by a missile. There are some interesting concepts used in this map and is worth checking out.

One thing that subtracts from the map is the overall flow. The layout can be very confusing at first. Also, the second-last objective can only be destroyed by an explosive as noted by the author. This can be frustrating if you don't have such a weapon after getting through all those defenders. Other than that, a decent map.
