This is not Lineage2. With a compelling theme and near two dozen supporting static meshes you half expect more than you recieve. DM-Dragonspeak is a small square platform surrounded by a visually nasty drop. I'm glad to say the UT2003 engine looks nice and without some decent visuals in the play zone this map would be just another small frag frenzy single box with spawn points. The sky box with its circling winged lizards amid a full moon lit starry sky is offset by a dismal cliff base and shoddy orange racing clouds below. Just don't look down, or up if you were to fall.
Architectually the map is fairly organic, the chinese symbol meshes offering a mystic past to future gibs. The rock arches hint at stonehenge while the four corner claws at a more tolkien inheritance. Some ambient sounds, including a dragon cry furter support the theme, however the two watching gaurdians drive it home. Pity they look more like truck stop dinosaurs than unreal dragons, still a good attempt at advanced modelling.
Gameplay was lack luster. The U-Damage offered some risk incentive requiring a double jump in full sight to access. The central power-up a certain draw and better avoided because spawning bots hot with fresh weapons were constantly making the catch with their superior all seeing AI whenever a new pickup would spawn. Spawning was also a mixed bag, more than once I spawned facing the ground, wasting time getting my bearings to frantically run around what little cover there was to find a bigger gun. "Weapons Stay" is a must for this map, and NO translocators if you want a challenge.
Last, I can't say I enjoyed my game much. Any Z was afforded by the curvature of the "peak" and the bots all too predictable even on higher difficulty settings. In 30 seconds you will have seemn all there is to see, especially if you get nudged off the edge. Maybe good for a fast match for a small server, but you'll need little in the way of tactics other than "KEEP MOVING!". Get it if you like the theme, leave it if you want to scream. |

| souldividersjosz 01-20-2004 06:36 AM MST | Rating: 8 | | Due to my very strict look at this map I earlier gave it a 6, because I thought it was worth a 6. But then my friends (among them the person who made this map) started complaining about what grade I gave it. Well, since this is just a silly comment which won't be regarded as very serious I might as well stop the idiotic complaining and give this map a higher grade. But I swear, DJJD, if you ain't stopping with the complaints now I'll turn this into a 3. :P I am giving this 8 for the beautiful story the map has (which I wrote :P) and for the originality it has with the dragons, really really nice. And falling down ain't that bad, because I don't fall down that much either. :P SO STOP COMPLAINING!
| robertovicioro 12-28-2003 05:11 AM MST | Rating: 8 | | First of all Sjoz is just a sick guy if he gives a 6 just because falling down takes too long!! The map is nice to play with 1 bot or maybe 2... More just makes it 2 chaotic... I dont mind the time falling down because im such a good UT2K3player that i just dont :p This map deserves an 8, because DJJD has put lotsa work in it and the result is a beautiful map that plays very nice
| OLDMAN(CO30) 01-20-2004 02:57 PM MST | Rating: 8 | | Iam impressed, clean and easy on the eyes, makes for a fast match, only change i see would be to replace the lighting gun with a link gun. Now take this design add a few very narrow rock bridges to other spots on the out side with just enough room to stand on with lighting guns and no protection, could get real nasty.
| Golc@nda 01-21-2004 12:43 PM MST | Rating: 5 | | ...yes, the work put in this map is remarkable but a good map is not done only of work. The good maps, that really deserves a vote of 8, must have not only a big quantity of work inside but also and above all a good quality. The quality is a global concept, and means that all the map's aspects have been well studied an constructed by the mapper. For example in this map the falling area would have been better with some lava or water instead of the strange and not understandable material used. Again,if you fall you don't understand why you are falling down so slowly and also for the terrain the texture used is completely not focused. Quantity of work:7 Quality of work:4 gameplay:6
The average vote is about 6.
