AWE: 2 CTF-Taradion Outpost, looks like something straight out of thhe original Unreal. Pentagonal doorways, the blocky Skaarj pillars with the odd shaped lights. Though they may be a bit blocky, they still produce a lot for the atmosphere, even the pillars and arches in the lower level look good; and they don't look like they're added in for filler either. The beams underneath the tiled flooring outside is a nice touch, reminds me of the rebar used in paving roads.
Lighting is dark, and adds to the gloom of the setting. Torches line the upper routes, giving you nice crackling light as you quickly storm your way to the enemy flag. Inside and underneath is another story. Light sources are that of a Skaarj background, like they had built this underground facility to keep it hidden from the Nali. It's bright enough to see your way through, but still dark enough to aid confusion in battle. Overall, a little on the dark side.
Texturing does quite a bit for the feeling of the map. Though mostly a brown brick and tiling, it really helps the lighting, whether it be an evil dark blue, a hellish red, or a tarnished gold color. Alignments are hit on the average. Floors and ceilings are aligned well, and the walls look good on vertical alingments, but when the wall angles, the bricks aren't matched up.
BUILD: 1.5 More of the atmosphere comes from the sounds that vibrate off your eardrums. The torches pop and snap away as do the heads of your opponents while the wind slowly howls on through. Electricity hums inside for the modern aspect. Brush-work doesn't look bad, some interesting combinations and angles though, which makes the architecture look decent. Skybox is ok, but the mountain textures were enlarged too much, and they look somewhat pixelated. Location settings are in the map, not a whole lot of them, but they get the job done considering the size of the map, which is on the small side.
CAST: 1.5 The map falters here from what it could be. The flags are on the upper most level, and most of the spawn points are below, where fire fights break out quick because it doesn't take long at all to get to the other side. If you spawn on the upper level, or manage to work your way up there, flag caps can be done in around 30 seconds, providing the opposition is only a couple people. Which really hurts the flow score, even though it may be quick, it doesn't really utilize the rest of the map. The bottom level only has 2 ways out, a ramp on each end, and the darkness on the ends doesn't help you see it.
Botplay is alright, they can capture the flag just as easily, they just become too preoccupied with fighting each other instead of sticking to the objective. Only 3-4 bots out of 8 stick to the flag capping and defense. Item placement hits the marks. Giving you only a couple weapons up top, and if you want a different weapon, you'll have to go search for it, but you may not have time to do so.
SCORE: 5 Mixed feelings with this one. It looks kind of cool, but lacks in any serious gameplay because it can happen so fast. Hardcore CTF players should take a look at this one. |

if coronas were toned down a bit, or had a more consistent coloring, i'd kick my scoring up a bit.

BOUT THE MAP- The architecture is in a theme,and lighting too. but yes, I agree about cprpnas too. in addition they emmit different color of the light then coronas, which is strange. The different size of basesis unfair, I think, because one team has more SPAMAMPBILITY then the other. Oh well, the atmocpheare is nicely done, which bring the feeling of solid UT style!
