Wow, this map reminds me of something Sidney "Clawfist" Rauchberger would've built...
AWE: 1.5 Outdoor lighting looks even across, but it's bright enough to look like it's noon. Although the lack of some shadows takes a way from this look. It really doesn't look that bad, just could use a little improvement. Inside lighting on the other hand could use a lot more work. This sort of lighting would've looked great in the Unreal 1 days. 1 light actor per light source, over saturated, and not enough coloring, but at least there is light and dark areas. Slime does give off some good light too.
Architecture is hit and miss. Some ramps have nice curves to them, along with the trim. There are spiral ramps which isn't a very common sight. Outdoor terrain looks decent as well, except some caves are square, and have no jaggedness to them. Inside is similar, a lot of basic cubes and brushes, not enough angles, curves, or variety like what he has on the entree halls; but even then the texturing for those doesn't help.
Texturing is a little strange. The structure outside is awefully dull looking texture wise. Floors and ramps are aligned, but walls and other siding has that repetitive look we've all seen before. The glass peak to one of the buildings looks horrible. One of the buildings outside texturing looks too modern for the rest of the map as well.
BUILD: 2 Great sounds all through the map. No zoning, and the map could use it, I noticed some slowdown at times. Skybox has one of the better ideas I've seen for mountains, but the textures are enlarged too much and looks really grainy. Aside from that, it looks like you're really in the mountains. The one lift works fine, but could use louder sounds. But the map has life, and that's rare.
CAST: 2 Gameplay is pretty awesome, bots navigate the map really well, but they do tend to hang around the waterfall area. The size of the map takes a little away from gameplay, because it's huge. 16 players is almost the minimum. There's room for around 32, but that may start to be crowded. Flow is somewhat awkward, with the indoor areas around the border of the map, but there are a plethora of routes to take.
I didn't find myself lacking in ammo, nor having a full load all the time, it's really about right. Decent amount of health, but with the maps size, you'll be wishing some health was closer when you find some already taken. Playability is an issue, which I hate to say. In some areas it slowed pretty good. So be ware.
SCORE: 5.5 This map has Unreal 1 written all over it. It may not meet today's standards for the perfect map, but this one is still a keeper in my book. Just download the map already. |

| Reciprocity 10-05-2003 10:00 PM MDT | Rating: 8 | | Wow, this is original and low poly! Though I'm not sure why it is called "UserFriendly", it's a nice map. It has a very "Unreal" feel to it. I got a case of nostalgia playing this little number. Basically it's a wierd tower with a river running by it housed by a crater thing. But that's just the basics, it has all these little subsections and cranny's for you to explore. My only gripe is the texturing. Other than that, this one's hot like leather seats on a sunny day.....that's farenhiet, not celceius.
| buju_pers0nified 10-05-2003 10:18 PM MDT | Rating: 8 | | Man this a HUGE map. I love it. I know that "User Friendly" is a CTF map for Unreal Fortress, but I see no resemblence in the two. Great map. You will spend more time exploring than fragging oppenents.

| LiquidSteel 10-06-2003 06:27 PM MDT | Rating: 8 | | This map is HUGE! But I really liked it. Lots of places to go, bots to frag..... I will say that you will need to turn on about 20 bots to have any kind of Real fun. Definitely a keeper. Where is the darn redeemer??????

good map.
| Manticore 10-15-2003 01:40 AM MDT | Rating: 6 | | I like the gameplay. There is lots of running around to do. The bots are pathed well and fully into the action. Quite aggressive thank you. Plenty of weapons but since this map has some sniping/camping potentials the sniper rifle(s) could be better placed. What I'm not sure about is some of the textures, thematically speaking. You have a bunker type feel with windows more suited to an old building. You have caves/tunnels lit by lamps which would be better in the same old building. (I've never gotten bored with flaming torches, this engine always makes them look great). These really jar my sense of the "Unreal". Very oldskool but fun to play. Worth nesting away there in the old maps folder.

| Danbo Daxter 10-18-2003 11:45 AM MDT | Rating: 9 | | Oh man, this was just the kind of map I was looking for!
With brilliant visuals (could use some better lighting though, I'ld prefer it a little darker in some "indoor" places, but that's just me) and a great setting I knew this map was going to 0wN me right from the start. I was extremely suprised to find out how well it ran on my hardly top-end PC...
All in all, great work!
