AWE: 1.5 Hmm, border line 1-1.5. Looks like a Skaarj themed map from Unreal 1, which is nice to see brought back. Most of the texturing is a light brown, a little bland in areas, but there's enough variety to keep it from being too boring.
Not much to the map, but the author manages to squeeze in some fair architecture. The pillars aren't bad, and there's some pipes that are ok as well. Nothing outstanding, nor completely basic.
Lighting is needs some work as well. Some light sources need to be lit better, one is too dark, and others are completely white, even though the light is purple around that immediate area. A good variation of lighting all around, some decent lit areas, to some darker areas.
BUILD: 1 Brush-work is about average, there's a cave like room that doesn't looks ok, but I don't really see the point of the room to begin with. Teleporters lead to this small cave, but the placement of one is a rather dumb place: a dead-end cylinder in the floor, with the only way out being the teleporter itself, or translocate. Sounds are good, just the right amount for the size of the map.
CAST: 1.5 Gameplay is really good, doesn't give you much time to stop and "catch your breath" so to speak, bots get to every part of the map. Which isn't hard to get to every part of the map, the readme only says "A little map," and that's no joke. Which leads to the worst part of the map, flow. It's basically like a figure-8, with teleporters that lead you to a cave just to give you more space. It's not all flat, but there's really no chance for z-axis. Item placement needs a little work. Three health vials are on a "ledge" that's just tall enough for you to have to jump onto.
SCORE: 4 Not that bad of a map, just not that great of one either. I'd say it's probably worth the 500kb download. |
