CTF-Connectivity[iG] | | Map Info |
| | File Name | ctf-connectivity[ig].zip | Author | omnipolex | Gametype | UT Capture the Flag | Date Added | 09-03-2003 | File Version | 1.00 | File Size | 1.74 mb | Player Count | 6-16 | Map Description | :/ Well, although the first review was rather harsh, I'll still accept it as being just that. My goal was to create a map to allow instagib players... hence the [iG] in the name :/ in case you didn't happen to see that before you attempted to play with regular weapons (oops!)... to be able to play a quick and precise game. Sure their isn't much to look at, but the overall appearance is good. I didn't bother working on extensive brush building, as I wanted this map to flow nicely without any interruptions. I didn't include botpathing because I didn't intend for this map to be played with bots. I think one should experience gaming online, rather than at home with bots. But because, in order to review a map like this, you need to play with the bots, I understand why ratings will be low. I just hope people can understand that this is my first attempt at CTF mapping and although your review was true to a point, it was rather harsh to say this was a poor excuse for mapping. I do believe this map will work nicely online in a fast paced game.
Thank you for your opinion and I'll be on the lookout for more as days pass. | Review Rating | -- | User Rating | 1 | Overall Rating | -- |

| Reciprocity 09-05-2003 07:22 PM MDT | Rating: 2 | | Connectivity. Prepare to lower your expectations... Connectivity is a lame excuse for a CTF map that fails in all fields. First and foremost, the weapons, or rather, the lack of weapons. Connectivity is one of those maps that "forces the player to rely on his skills as opposed to luck or his weapon selection".....yeah. To you and me that means you'll be playing with your spawn weapons (Enforcer, Impact Hammer and Translocator) if you didn't read the README and figure out this was made for Instagib. I played it with in both gametypes, regular and Instagib, not fun, not entertaining and certainly not worth the space on my computer. Another major point that Connectivity fails to impress in is the visual element. Connectivity is one of those maps that has a screenshot that gives away the entire map. Yup that's it, gray with the occasional red and blue stripe. There is this floor circle thingy with a water texture but I'm sure you're not going to find that visually stunning as I didn't. I always thought the "Instagib-only" maps were the product of lazy mappers who want something quick and easy. Well, quick and easy, my friend, doesn't fly well with me. He didn't even include botpathing! This map is junk. Don't download it. Over and out. EDIT: Harsh!? I gave it a two, which is probably in the ballpark of what your other the scores will come to so quit yo' b*tchin'!
| Nahand 09-04-2003 09:00 AM MDT | Rating: 0 | | I didn't even download the map. Still, i have something to say to the author in hope he and others understand a few things:
1. Visuals. Never use the excuse that it was made to play online, so it has to run well. Don't. Nowadays, better games with better visuals and more "heavy" in eye-candy ARE indeed played online. And i don't have a super computer or a lightning fast connection...
2. ... and because is meant to be played online, i didn't include botpathnoding. Another mistake. You WILL eventually play it OFFLINE, either because no one plays the game anymore, or just because your connection failed (ISP...), and you still want a game or two on your map.
3. InstaGib. Personnaly, i don't really like to be restrained to a single, powerful weapon. Still, as anyone that plays that gametype will tell you, it replaces and/or deletes the "common" weapons of the map to allow just InstaASMD. Placing "common" weapons is a plus, since the map could be used by non-instagibbers. Besides, it's just silly to do it, since, as i said, the gametype do it for you. Definitly a NO-NO.
Of course, as with anything in the world, many will disagree with what i just posted but those things are IMO, the type of "rules" you and all instagib mappers should get some attention to. If not, the above comments are what you should expect generally. No one likes good mapping (not saying this is such case) efforts being ruined by silly mapping mistakes. Even more InstaGib...
NOTE that the comment rating should not be taken into account has depreciative. As i said, i didn't downloaded the thing.
| Mr.Bojangles 09-05-2003 07:36 PM MDT | Rating: 1 | | Why the hell did you exclude bot pathing? Do you really think there are always going to be people playing this already half-assed map online? The layout seemed alright for the three minutes I played it but come on, this map looks like its outdated and you just released it. Gameplay wise I didnt get to experience much considering all the that bots did was sit there and pick their noses and no one online seemed to keen on playing. I guess this review may seem harsh and unfair but im just rating based on the goods you delivered and you delievered a one.
