AWE: 2 Architecture is just a little above average. Frieza does an excellent job of getting some interesting range of curves for the upper platform. Other good looking brushes with chainlink filler help spiff the place up nicely, as well as great arches. The skylights have some plant over growth, which helps the abandonned ancient theme which is described in the readme.
Lighting is right on the mark, although I don't think the Spaniards of the 1500's had electrical lights. Anyways, the effects are done well, and don't blow out the lighting from the sky. Which by the way, looks excellent, it's brightness looks like it's sometime in the afternoon, and looks realistically so. There are a couple dark halls on either end of the map, too dark really, which I'm guessing is to cover up their blandness. ;-)
Texturing is good as well, but the trim chosen for the round edges is a square wooden tiles. Which makes it difficult to get them aligned properly, and they're not. But the stone walls are scaled greatly at appropriate locations.
BUILD: 2 Good sound to the map, mostly crickets and other small organisms, but it really feels like it's out in the wild. A couple areas are zoned off, but I didn't have any playability problems (so maybe it worked). Brush-work is great, again some really nice curved flooring, not really seen in other maps, even the greater ones.
CAST: 2.5 Gameplay is very fast paced for no more than 4 players. The map is rather small, and might be ideal for 1 on 1 matches, though it is rather open. The layout has roatational symmetry, which makes the flow decent, with jumpboots it helps get to the upper level quicker. Item placement is solid, not too little, not too much ammo and weaponry. Health is a tad scarce, but it's not like you'll use it for long with this kind of gameplay. The U-damage is nicely placed, forcing yourself to be vulnerable with the translocator for a couple seconds. Bots can't get to it though, a simple translocate destination would've worked.
SCORE: 6.5 Ugh, another 6.5. Either I've been downloading the wrong maps, or I've been stuck in a rut lately. Either way, DM-Profacation is a decent map and deserves a download. Go ahead, give it a try. |

| Deceased 08-12-2003 12:38 PM MDT | Rating: 8 | | a huge improvement on Frieza's previous map to be uploaded to NC. .... yeah i know his other map was submitted ages ago and is his early work...so that means anything after that has gotta be an improvement. I have test played this map for the auther previous to its subittal to NC. The map has a good over all floor plan with some z-axis.. id say this map was good for 1on1 or maybe a few more players... 3-4... the item placement i found was good as the are certain little, 'runs' for picking up items, such as the udamage is placed on a high ledge and can only be reached my using the jumpboots around the corner from it... lots of detail such as cracked walls, ambient sounds and special events make this map for me a 'keeper'. during the test playing i didnt see that the bot/bots get stuck in a masked wall, if you find this is a problem, blame me or the other testers :P over all i think this is a great map, as i said suitable for a low number of players, but as i am more suited to playing in maps made for a higher number of players i cant give this map a high score as high i would if i wasnt a player who prefers huge player loads... Frieza, the auther also mentioned to me a problem with the play quality when he played the map, but when i ran the map i encountered no performance hampering bugs or mishaps.. i rate this map as a 8, and i look forward to seeing more maps from my good friend Frieza. Good luck with the production team mate (Y) :)
| Homeslice 08-09-2004 07:32 PM MDT | Rating: 8 | | Yeah, this map's great. A tad too dark in some spots, but it looks and flows pretty damn nice. And is it Profacation or Profaction?....
Anyway, I like it!
| Frieza 08-10-2004 04:00 PM MDT | | I did the dark intentionally, and the Profaction thing was a typing mistake :D, so it is actually Profacation.
| theBAMNman 08-13-2003 03:43 PM MDT | Rating: 5 | | The visuals are nice, but the map definitely has its share of problems. The architecture is nice, but it comes at the expense of a 450+ poly spike at the ends of the arena. The layout has rotational symmetry, which could be okay except the map is too small for it. The item placement needs improvement, as two of the three weapons are on the ground, meaning the z-axis doesn't come into play much. There's also lots of empty space between weapons and the ammo is right next to the weapon. Also, play gathers around the shock rifle corner too often. The best thing gameplay-wise is that the damageamp setup is nice. Overall, the gameplay drags down the visuals to give the map an 'average' feeling.
| Master roshi 08-17-2003 12:18 AM MDT | Rating: 9 | | Nice map Friza maybe you should keep creating insted of distroying. I still remember what you did to planet namek... Do you have anymore maps. I would like to see them.
| paranoid 08-18-2003 12:19 AM MDT | Rating: 6 | | I didn't mind this map. . .the visuals are nice. . .nothing extravagant but at least there aren't no glaring errors. I didn't notice any slowdown, but the one thing i didn't like with visuals was the texturing, while it's all aligned it's all pretty boring, and while there are some nice lighting effects (like the sunlight streaming though) it's also generally quite boring and i really do not like that pitch black corridor even if its sposed to be there. The gameplay was also ok. . .the level itself is quite small but it works. . .anyway a solid map, but nothing that hasn't been done before. 6.5
| Manticore 10-12-2003 02:38 AM MDT | Rating: 6 | | Two small issues: (i) The delay on the audio gives the wrong sound cue for the architectural size of the space. The audio comes over sounding more like you are in cavern. Delay is a bit too long and bit too heavy. (ii) The chain link tex used around the map doesn't really fit with the church/gothic stone walls and features. Particularly when you have the addition of some oldskool style hanging plants etc. My opinions anyway. Plays well, nice lighting. I like the spawn point being in the pitch black corridor.
