| -=Forza=- 08-10-2003 01:32 PM MDT | | Okay, checked out FTB, there are some definite similarities, mainly ceiling tex, water in centre, big square room, I imagine there's actually quite a few maps like these, since they're simplistic, easier to build for newer mappers, still like mine better :)
| Doc Kevorkian 08-07-2003 03:04 PM MDT | Rating: 4 | | The positive. CTF-Bella Ragazza IG is a fairly decent map in terms of gameplay and flow, given its intended use as an instagib arena. Long sight lines abound, good for long-range strafing action and wicked crossfire situations.
Now the negatives. First, there is a suspicious similarity to an earlier release — CTF-ForTheBelievers (a superior map). Coincidence? Certainly possible. But if Forza was inspired by FTB (nothing wrong with that), proper credit should have been paid.
Secondly, the aesthetics leave a lot to be desired, or, more accurately, have much to be rejected. Where FTB is subtle and forboding, BR is tacky and garish, especially the wall textures in the main hall– butt-ugly. And what's the point of employing those pointy-topped windows in the outside halls as non-functioning black decals? And as for that giant bug zapper light fixture hanging from the ceiling — Jeez! Totally wrong for the map, or any map (except maybe DOM-Britney!).
In the heat of a good battle the visuals are secondary and you don't pay much attention to textures etc. But looks do still count, so the best I can give this map is a 4.
| bubbathefool 08-09-2003 12:15 AM MDT | Rating: 5 | | Well, I like the layout cause it's wide open like CTF-Thorns ][ and uncannily similar to CTF-ForTheBelievers (designed by myself and built by zenpunk, a Black Forest carpenter). But the look is TACKEEE! Man, it's like Dick Clark's New Years Eve Special. And what's the purpose of the bug zapper in the middle?
On the plus side, teleporting to the attic is a nice touch, although it works against a smaller player load. And as I mentioned earlier, I like the game play in wide open maps. It's a subjective thing.
Forza, you should check out CTF-ForTheBelievers to see what all this comparative stuff is about. Doc K., thanks for the kind words about CTF-FTB.
Meanwhile I rate this map a 5 because I like the way it plays with live bodies. No comment on the bots.
