LaHaine's got game. Gimick wise, this map is a mesh upgrade of UT's famous stock DM-Conveyor. A matinee view quickly wisks you into play (unfortunately disabling spectator mode and the ability to scan the map prior to spawning). Predominant colors are concrete grey and safety yellow, leading to the map's industrial theme. Light sourcing is minimal and not fully accountable, yet choice projectors, lense flares and trusty light boxes quench most visual desires for the less technical. The simple BSP architecture is nicely mesh trimmed in a complimentary manor to the theme. One other negative, a dislocated floor tile has a mis-matched texture to the surrounding floor, which probably is the reason for its rejection. At first I disliked the map's custom music, however it grew on me and was, according to the readme, inspiration for the map. To back up my opening sentance, LaHaine has gameplay. Plenty of Z with accessability, good distribution of weapons and custom power-ups for Health and Shields. I question the inclusion of the Deemer as the red room it resides in doesn't merit the risk incentive, if only it had been made a pressure trap... I did find spawning challenging, seeming to always re-enter the map behing the minigun box, but the fast paced flow and fantastic verticle action gave way to a fun filled experience of masterful mayhem. Yes, I liked it and went back for more. Perhaps not the most esthetically pleasing of maps, the enjoyment factor wins my vote. Something that Unreal Tournament lost when it went 2003 makes a comeback in LaHaine, game. |

| Fuzzy Logic 07-07-2003 06:50 PM MDT | Rating: 8 | | Nice industrial theme with conveyor belts and stuff. Looks great. Plays really well too. Flows very smoothly for this kind of map. Lots of z action and the bots do ok.
One to keep.
| SUNAY MOON 07-07-2003 07:38 PM MDT | Rating: 8 | | Fast pace map with a few nasty traps for your opponents. A few bugs but still plays great.
| Aggressor 07-08-2003 04:36 AM MDT | Rating: 7 | | I'm swaying between 7 and 8; this is one industrial map that made me sing, because it actually imitates the feeling and implements some original ideas. Sounds are there aplenty also. Flow is not the best, but gameplay is quite good.
| The_Real_Meneer_Aard 08-10-2003 02:45 PM MDT | Rating: 9 | | this map is cool! apart from the cool intro poem and the weirdo music track, it has many nice little things to suprise you. the old conveyor belt is back in action, without a real function as always. barrels are transported through various vaccuum devices (dont walk into those. ouch), and dissappear in one.lol Heavy z action and cool machinery make this map an wannahave
[posted later] after a month or so, i found myself still playing this map. the rating is corrected from n 8 to an 9. its so much fun and its a shame no more interest is being payd in it. i like this map much more than i liked many ownage maps. do us all a favor and review this plz.

| avatar 09-09-2003 09:31 AM MDT | Rating: 6 | | Flow isn't great at all.. the spawns could be moved around to improve that.. weapons placement is mediocre, and lighting needs work. Other than that, the map is fairly interesting and I like the theme. :)
| _GMotha 02-03-2004 01:57 PM MST | Rating: 5 | | Hint to the infamous movie?:) anyhow, this map isn't bad, but the layout seems to be too improvised at moments "ah, looks empty: i'll just add another brush.".
| <[DecoY]> 02-03-2004 04:09 PM MST | Rating: 6 | | looking at the screens here :/
I'd say it's overlighted, but that's maybe the mappers gamma correction and brightness...
map looks stylish :)
