Oh, this is going to be a tough one to write about...

I suppose the best one line review would be: This is one of those maps that plays better than it looks.

The good first this time: The layout is nice- it doesnt feel base-base like most of the DOM maps- it has a style closer to that of deathmatch/classic DOM maps. While fairly flat, there are a number of rocky outcroppings and paths crossing overhead to provide some Z-axis oppertunities. The control points are located in medium sized open areas with several enterances. While they are certainly defendable, from most perspectives you wont be able to clearly see all the ways in, so it will be fairly challenging to hold the points, which is good because this level is very spaced out. Whatever weapon is your favorite, youll be able to put it to good use in some spot in here. Lighting is all white, but its reasonably well sourced.

The neutral: This is a terrain map. If youre one of those anti-terrainmap people, youre not going to like this, so dont bother downloading and posting 0s and comments to the effect of "its just a bunch of terrain, it sux0rz."

The Not-so-good: Basically the entire map exluding the skyboxis done in two textures. Now while there is nothing wrong with the way they look, with no scaling, blending, or alignment problems, it causes everything in the map to be basically the same. It would have helped a lot if he added some more texture layers to vary the appearance of the walls and floor. I wont bother preparing a shot since the level previews pretty much show you everything you need to see. Next, while this is clearly meant to be a level in a naturally barren land, it is rather lacking in the detail department, and some things are just out of place: The jump pads which are visible in one of the level shots, are taken from the Tokara forest mesh set- they seem exteremly out of place here (but I dont know if I could have found a better one that fit in, I suppose). Other than a couple of light posts to provide lighting to the map, which is decently done, there is basically nothing standing out from the terrain and the rocks etc other than the DOM points. While the HUD compasses are perfectly good for finding the points, it would have been nice if he put in some xDOMmonitors or some other object to provide a visual cue that youre near the control point, and show whos in control.

If I had to guess, Id say this is the mappers first or second real map. The gameplay is up there, but the visuals are lacking. Give it a try if you: A) are desperately searching to expand your DOM map library; or B) could care less about eye candy and gameplay is all you value, because it does fairly good in that department. Avoid if you dont like DOM or are a terrain map hater as described above.

yeah, and i reviewed it as soon as I saw and played it. I always jump on a new DOM map. :)

there are thousands of maps to review- as such, dont expect a lot if your map doesnt stand out in any way good or bad)- as we tend to only look at the last week or so.

The more reviews we do, the weaker they will be, as we will be doing reviews just go crank them out, and not be putting as much thought into them. and IMO, that is a bad thing.

Not what I was expecting, but it was an intersting map overall.

Also, to the dude winging about reviews, remember this, NaliCity doesn't have a review que like other sites, they just pick an choose what maps they review, as Sir Tahngarth mentioned, he picks maps as soon as he sees them, real nice that hey.

I would expect your map will never be reviewed if you have been waiting that long, get over it, post your map elsewhere, it will most likly get reviewed much quicker and be a bit more of a realistic review.

Everything's gray.
Everything's dark.
And those bright jumppads look strange with such background.
And what do the projectors do in this desert?

But gameplay is nice.
