AWE: 1.5 Not a bad looking map, something reminiscent of the DOM maps that came with UT, which was the author's goal according to the readme. Architecture could be better, there is quite a bit added so it doesn't look so flat and blocky, but what is added is only basic beams, cylindrical containers, and such.
Texturing is ok, kind of nice to see the Mine texture pack put in use again, instead of Richrig or SGTech. Corners and edges could have been aligned better, even though I know it is rather time consuming. Found a couple light textures chopped off that should have been scaled to fit. Not much else to add really.
Lighting could use some work as well, the light the slime puts off is overpowered by overhead lights, lower saturation would be better. Coronas look good, although the small yellow lights don't have any. A number of light sources also lit up some of the rooms too well.
BUILD: 1 Brush-work is aligned well, though the brushes are on the basic side, cubes, cylinders, etc. Plenty of sounds throughout, flowing water, and mechanical noises. The author says there's a HOM in the map, but I didn't see it, so it must not be a big one. Rooms are zoned off, and have location IDs, except for a couple rooms that did not have an ID.
CAST: 2 Gameplay is pretty fun, bots navigate the map well, and can get to all the items. The flow isn't bad, some of the weapons were placed in "closet" like holes in the wall, kind of corners you during a fight if you go for that weapon. Items may be a tad on the short side with 8 players, but you can still find stuff lying around fairly quickly, you just might have to switch weapons more often. One DOM point is in a room with only one entry way, makes for easy defending, but the point isn't sought after like the other 2.
SCORE: 4.5 Overall, a fairly solid map, just needs some better eye-candy. Fun with 8 players, I wouldn't recommend anymore than 10, or you will find yourself respawning quickly, and little guns to find right away. |

| Razor 09-18-2003 01:18 PM MDT | Rating: 6 | | Good map, with nice architecture, kind of similar to Gearbolt but more tight. gameplay is good bots play well. A better lighting and maybe more green light could help the map. but overall its a fun map.

If you like Lament or Gearbolt, this is for you. That was my goal and I hope people see it as that.
I thought 4.5 was kinda low, but I wasn't going to argue about it because I know most of the reviewers here do judge eye-candy way higher than gameplay. There were some flaws in it like the misaligned textures on some of the lights that I noticed after the release, which was mentioned in this review (I had another review somewhere else that totally missed it).
