Silysium is a heavy z-action map taking place in the top of an artsy pink tower, function unknown :) . Extremely original both in design and appearance, this 70 MB mapfile (its all staticmeshes, so the load time isnt overly bad). Unfortunetly, it pains me to say that the afformentioned heavy z-action tottally destroys the bombing run gameplay. (This would be a great deathmatch map in a pinch, however.)
the Z-axis design of the map is a problem because while it takes some time to get to the ball, first team to get the ball can just jump down from one side of it and dash a very short distance to the goal at the bottom of the map. basically, first team to grab the ball (or survive the possible CRASH! BANG! BOOM! at the top) scores an easy touchdown. This would be easily fixed if the map was designed with the goals on high levels of the map with the ball start on the bottom level. The only hope to prevent a score is to only send one teammate up towards the ball and camp your goal, unfortunetly the tiny goal rooms coupled with them being on the bottom level makes them extremely hard to defend. The carrier can just shoot the ball into the goal room as he nears it and fire a rocket or two, then score. In Summary: Scoring is WAY too easy on this map. a 30 point game lasted only a few minutes for me, and it wasnt bad bot performance. in fact the bots did quite well, they showed me how easy it was to score (then I did the same thing myself).
Performance on the map was better than I expected, though it dropped off significantly with just a few bots. However, it was much more playable than I expected it to be based on the authors description.
Overall: An extremely unique, eyecandy-loaded map that unfortunetly is not suited to bombing run due to goal/ballstart locations causing ease of scoring. Id like to see this same map in DM, perhaps with some of the ramps or platforms moved around to kill the symmetry. I think it would score much higher there, where Z-axis is almost always a good thing. Too bad that it isnt in this case. If you like fast games though, you probably wont care. I think this will show up on a few servers. High above average visuale experience, far below average gameplay, overall middle of the road map (remember, my score is out of 9) |

Can't give it any less than 5 for the originality/meshwork, which makes it better than n00b stuff.

So, i rate the "design"-maps on a slightly different scale than the "greatgameplay"-maps. Well, i dig the colour, its lovely. The whole room is great! I really appreciate the effort to build this. But i have to admit, that its confusing to play. And the bots are really fast. But as i tried to say, who gives a flying?!

Bug alert: On the outer side of the "goal rooms", you can shoot your translocator down to the floor below, but you'll never get back up. That could be exploited I think, though I dunno how :)
