It's my first more serious attempt to design a UT-map and it's a bit like the classic DM-Zeto level, though not during winter, more like autumn. Do try it, you might like it! :) | Review Rating | 7 | User Rating | 7.5 | Overall Rating | 7 |

REVIEWER: Gnome and Sapper DATE: Wednesday, July 20th, 2005 TODAY'S MAP WAS PICKED BY: SAPPER
DM-Zybro by Bilstein
AWE: 2.5 BUILD: 2.0 CAST: 3.0
GNOME: On par with the artistry of Alan Willard, Cliff Bleszinski, and Cedric Fiorentino, DM-Zybro successfully mixes elements from many favorite maps to create something familiar but distinctly unqiue. At first glance, I thought I had loaded up DM-Zeto by accident but after a quick run around this little map, not only did I realize I was playing a totally different map, I also kinda forgot that this map didn't actually come with Unreal Tournament. SAPPER: I, on the otherhand am perfect and I never forget anything nor do I make those kinds of mistakes. I will admit however that this map would have prefectly complimented the DM-Zeto map in the release of Unreal Tournament. GNOME: You actually agreed with me on something? SAPPER: Don't let it go to your head.
THE AWE FACTOR GNOME: This map is beautifully constructed. Utilizing wonderful texturing without any misalignments that I could find, and positioning light sources in the right places with the right strength, it almost feels real. SAPPER: You know, one of the reasons why DM-Zeto has always been one of my favorite maps is because it moves away from blocky design with its smooth, curving corridors. I think that's why this is such an eye-catcher. I also like the gameplay element that is added when you have smooth, curving corridors because you can't just hide behind a wall and peak out whenever you want to make a kill. People who do that are cowards and I hate them all. GNOME: Ordinarily, I find that mixing colors such as red and blue in the same place doesn't exactly have the most asthetic quality, however the shades and hues used in this map compliment each other quite well and are actually quite pleasing to the eye. And with nice big windows to let you know that it is indeed a dark and stormy night establishes a mood while your playing. I'm in awe.
THE BUILD SAPPER: What do you suppose these walls are made of? GNOME: I don't know. Carbon steel and titanium maybe. Why? SAPPER: Well, the use of rain sound is very good. It's not too loud. It sounds like your hearing it from behind 2 inches of glass. GNOME: I agree. SAPPER: The thing that bugs me is that there are a couple of fans that you can hear when your standing in front of them. But if you go around into the...um, let's call it the banner room. If you go there and pick up the armor, you'll still be able to hear the fans. I figure that sound has to be travelling through several feet of carbon steel and titanium. This shows a zoning problem. GNOME: I think that's a pretty minor thing to worry about. Everything else is spectacular. SAPPER: There are also no lifts, no teleports and no movers. That combined with tight-quarters, I think z-axis gameplay was impaired. GNOME: Anything else? SAPPER: Nope, I think that covers it. Not much to bitch about today.
THE CAST GNOME: I had to play this map seven times before I finally noticed there was a redeemer in it. SAPPER: There's a redeemer in it? GNOME: The map is small enough that is really doesn't need a redeemer in it. Four to six players will provide a nice game. Eight players will give thrill-seekers the high they're looking for. But it was definately nice to see that Bilstein was thinking about all the little things when he designed this map. There are no bot paths leading to the extremely well hidden redeemer. As a result, the bots will give you no indication that the redeemer even exists. They will however go after all the other powerups which are tucked away nicely and require jumpboots or the translocator to access. SAPPER: Where's the redeemer? GNOME: Though predictable as almost all bots are, they do perform admirably. SAPPER: I can't find the redeemer... GNOME: Will you shut up! No flaws to speak of as far as I'm concerned. Weapon and item placement is superb and everything seems to fit nicely where it is. As a DM or TDM or even LMS, this map is a blast. And a decent mutator every now and then will keep it interesting for quite a while.
OVERALL GNOME: This map has inspired me to create a new map pack. Maaybe something like ten maps that should have come with the game itself. I'm pretty sure this would be one of them. SAPPER: Yeah, and we could write up little combat strategies for each one and maybe suggest cool mutators that go good with each map and stuff. GNOME: Bottomline, anyone how had DM-Zeto on their map rotation should have this one. And anyone who doesn't should still give this on a go or three. SAPPER: I just had a horrible thought. GNOME: What's that? SAPPER: You're picking Friday's map. You're not exactly known for choosing the best maps. GNOME: Whatever...see y'all on Friday.
SCREEN CAPTIONS: 1) This is the primary corridor that reminds us of the Zeto Ice Station. 2) But here the similarity ends. 3) The rain pours down upon the glass roof of the beautfiul banner room. 4) The lower deck of the banner room is fiercely contended for as one of only two places to pick up medkits. 5) My friend Heinz opts for an alternative route to get to his favorite weapon...the Flak Cannon. 6) Here sits the rocket launcher. Believe me, although you can see it, you may not be able to reach it before your chopped down by an enemy. 7) The Flak Cannon practically sits on a throne... 8) ...in this beautiful and deadly room. 9) Alarik's moving in for the weapon. Soon he'll be moving in for the kill. |

Ok checked it out, overall a prety nice map good for 1 on 1 or up to 6 max I'd say, definitly has a zeto feel to it and the rain outside looks good, only thing I did'nt like much was having to use the jump boots to reach all the power ups, 1 or 2 needing jump boots to reach would have beed enough IMO.
