In Short: Strange looking map - get if you like custom statics.
CTF-Haunted is a testament to the new engine and its possiblities, at least as far as static meshes go. Unique, different and weird are three words that descirbe the looks of the map. Huge outstretched hands float in the air, welcoming you to jump off the eage of the map and twisted and mishapen railing marks the base boundries. The custom statcis are clean and well made, adding to the maps feel. The "haunted" houses in front of each flag are basic however, and it ruins the detail of the statics. Flat, bare windows are all you get - something Im sad to see the aurthor not take further. He could have developed the haunted house theme, taking us inside. That would have helped gameplay too...
Indeed, the map is terrain based and thrus very open. Gameplay isnt really devloped at all, relying on the terrain itself. There are three real routes in the middle ground, covered by hills on both sides. A slight problem I found is that there are in fact 5 routes. At the edge of the floating platform there is room for a player to make his/her way around. It hinders play by stretching the total playing field and making it difficult to defend. This difficulty isnt helped by the confusing, if cool looking, teleport system on the houses. The Front and back ones teleport you to the opposite side, making it hell for defenders to react. Every now and again you get a player zipping out of the teleporter, leaving you only a matter of seconds to get them before the teleport back. The side teleporters lead you up to a snipers ledge, where a teleport can take you down to the front teleporter. Confused yet?
Ive mentioned that the teleporters look pretty cool already. They are little green and purple spiraliing emitters, an effect I havnt seen before. Apart from them there is a lack of special features in the level. Bot play is average, and they take the three main routes without major problem.

| Clark Kent 07-29-2003 10:55 PM MDT | Rating: 7 | | I totally DIS-Agreed. The map looks great and has a very original theme. Music is good and it plays good too. The lighting and color usage is really nice to look at and that hand in the sky is creepy lookin. Weapons placement is good and it's way better than a 4.5 IMO.
