Map DescriptionThis is a version of Tim Willits' "The Edge" from Quake II. I rebuilt the geometry from the ground up for maximum performance. It is an extremely loyal port of the layout, and doesn't really change the flow of the map in any way. Deja-Review lauded it for its bot support, which has been well received all round. Enjoy - and no flames please! :)

Thanks, guys. I believe Faceless did a version of Edge a long time ago, but it was somewhat different and rather more intepreted than mine, which sticks closer to the original.

EDIT: Redfist, CreepingDeath's version is really old, and the scale is off. Deja-Review (before it closed down) said this map beat CreepingDeath's version, reporting that DM-Edge-Scrag "nails scale perfectly" and that "bots go absolutely everywhere".
Plus, I mean, I've always loathed the colour scheme of Q2. Why do you think I lit this one in blue and cream?

EDIT2: Redfist, you give DM-Q2DM1 a 9.5 out of 10 and yet this map only a 5. Now I'm not going to suggest that my version deserves any more than the other scores on this comments page... but to me, it seems mighty strange to give only half as many points to the version that has actually tried to do something a bit interesting than you do to the straight and less technically competent port. CreepingDeath's version has unaligned, low-detail textures; fugly Q2 lighting; inferior bot support, and the scale is off. So why, as a conversion, do you rate this map with only half as many points, when it has fully aligned textures; more detailed lighting; 100% comprehensive bot support, and it nails scale perfectly?
If a map is to become part of another game it should be interpreted to suit that game. The flow and spirit of the map is what should be transmitted, and that is what has been done here, but with a half-way attempt at some originality with respect to the original map along the line.
So tell me again why DM-Q2DM1 gets a 9.5 but this version only gets a 5? If this map is a 5, then the other map should get a 3 or a 4 for being both less technically competent and lacking in imagination.

EDIT3: EdgeII is based on the same map as this one and as DM-Q2DM1, which kinda proves my point. People like EdgeII because Faceless took it in a totally new direction - it may resemble Q3 but it's not based on any Q3 map.

EDIT4: CursedSoul1, I never made a map for CogWorks. What gave you that idea, and which map are you thinking of?

Where is the atmosphere? No changes in ambient light, but other than that, an excellent map...I'll be keeping it

I have a version of this,it's allmost exact to q2
the author was VT|creepingdeath if you want to try a version of it and some other very good q2 redo's
I'll give ya the link.
I can't comment on this one till ya try the other one.
unless of coarse you allrady know what I speak of.
Ya I don't have quake2 installed,but a copy of a level for a different engine is what I aim for I guess.

It's hard to not interject your own stuff in while making a "duplicate",on those quake1 maps I did,I even kept in some of there mistakes.
A good example is your deck16 map, sure it's lit better, textures are better etc etc ,but,it don't feel like deck16 as wrong as they have made it.
but this is even trickyer because it's being duplicated on a completlty different engine.
and what burns me is that "faceless" map "edgeII" the q3 one,no one there seems to think it's bad for him to redo a map that looks like q3,thats a really nice job, even if it was done slightly different geometry.it looks just like q3.and gets 8 9 and 10,I redo a q1 level and all i catch is flak.
Your map is fine but it don't project what i anticipate.

Oh,duh, didn't know that, but hell ya still a good redo
it looks like q3 then.see it's so good I didnt know it was q2,i guess thats my point, however it's unreal engine !! wich is even better yet.

@ redfister
if you like the engine so much, why do you love all those quake maps? :)

compared to a lot of the quake maps ive seen, this map looks a lot better.

hellscrag always tends to keep his maps a bit in an oldish style, he once made a map for cogworks, and it looked really oldskool.
you really should move on to ut2k4, and keep that oldskool style, with a new engine to try out new possiblities :)

rotf :p
bums maybe?
but it could also be that i am mixing you up with someone that made similair maps :p
Waffnuffly or something maybe.. dont know.

anywayz, dont let redfist get you, he's retarded :)
and trying to do everything in his little q1 possessed mind to get his right.
