Level Size: Small
Recommended Player Load: 8 Players
This is small symmetrical CTF level, very similar to CTF-Terra.
This level, like CTF-Terra, has each base at either end of a small canyon. To avoid sniper fire, there's another route, which is mostly undercover. The bases are themed along the lines of DM-Gothic, in terms of architecture and texturing. The architecture on this level is fantastic. This level shares DM-Gothic's trademark arches, lanterns and other such architectural features. Texturing is also great. Each and every surface throughout this level has been textured well, and carries a distinctive theme throughout. The lighting acts as an "atmospheric glossing"; it really gives life to this level. A wide range of light brightnesses and lighting techniques have been skilfully incorporated into the level. A small number of ambient sounds have been used. These include mostly wind sounds, but also a couple of dripping sounds in the underground route. A thoughtful choice has been made with the music track selection.
Now, as good as this level may already sound, this level has one big stumbling block. The AI. On the whole, the bots play pretty well. They snipe, attack, and defend well, as well as using both routes. However, when using the main outdoor route, they get stuck when going under the bridge. They kind of stop, but still run on the spot. Most of the time, if a stuck bot is fired upon, it'll free them up. To be honest, this is something that playtesting should have found. It really does spoil this level, because it's so strong in the other areas. Item placement is good. The items and weapons help to spread the play between the two routes, making sure that neither one is over-used. Gameplay is great on this level, apart from the fault with the AI. The game is still very playable though, in spite of this. Having said they though, I'd rather play it online though, or over a LAN. Snipers will have a great time here, as both routes funnel at the same point, right in front of the sniper perch. Still, it's pretty easy to get past a sniper on this level though. I was told by the author that poly count can become a problem. But, I found it to be fine.
In conclusion, this is a good level, despite it's AI problem. This level is ideal for small LAN games, as well maybe net games too.
CTF Durante is;
Small
Well made
A cross between DM-Gothic and CTF-Terra
CTF Durante isn't;
Great for bot games
For players who hate sniper-dominated levels
For any more than 5 players per team, even though the author recommends 8 per team.
Teaching points for author:
Playtest, playtest, playtest!!! Try playing in spectator mode, and follow a single bot around. You'll then be able to see where the AI needs tweaking.
UPDATED - AI PROBLEM HAS BEEN FIXED. BOTS SCORE CHANGED FROM 6.5 TO 8.

| Blooddog_sweden | Rating: 7 | | This is a pretty good map,but I don't understand your comparing with CTF-Terra.Nothing is like Terra in this map.It's also not close to be so good that Terra really is. If every map would go as this map on my computer it would be a dream. (The most of the map goes good on my computer but maps like DM-Falkenstein and CTF-Aquamarines don't go so fine,but both of them are real good)
| Deathwing | Rating: 7.5 | | Fun, but not a keeper for too long.
| homophobe 01-20-2004 12:12 PM MST | Rating: 8 | | it was marked down by 1.5 because of a minor bot glitch = /
| Doc Kevorkian 01-20-2004 06:56 PM MST | Rating: 6 | | Good bordering on very good. More variety in the color scheme (too much brown ) would have earned it another point. Worth a download.
