| | File Name | ctf-thunderdome.zip | Author | tranzcoder | Gametype | UT2k3 Capture The Flag | Date Added | 02-25-2003 | File Version | 1.00 | File Size | 2.51 mb | Player Count | 4 to 8 | Map Description | Fighting leads to killing, and killing gets to warring. And, that was damn near the death of us all.
Thunderdome's simple. Get to the weapons, use them any way you can. I know you won't break the rules . . . there aren't any. | Review Rating | 4.5 | User Rating | 7 | Overall Rating | 5.5 |

Ladies and Gentlemen, Boys and Girls... dyin time is here.
Or so goes the embedded soundFX ripped from the movie. Also ripped is the triggered soundtrack bound as a WAV file (not an OGG). Thunderdome appears to be your standard lava filled sports arena with a boxy CTF layout center stage. Immediately I thought I was in some kind off Deathball match but was relieved to see the flags and standard weapons and items. Scale is defunct, the cardboard animated crowd much larger than players and nocibly lacking females, or kids. A few triggered spectator taunts around the perimiter were entertaining, however on the whole the floorplan would make audience viewing very difficult.
The most annoying aspect of this map would be the lower confines that mirror the box grid above. The sliding gate/movers are timed not triggered and anticipating there timing is difficult with angry bots unloading an arsenal on you. Plus the more desirable power-ups can be found down in the basement, including the super shield(armor), Kegger and Redeemer. The stairs are also a bit awkward but do the job.
As a CTF map this hits mid range on the replay scale. While the crowd inspires action, the simple architecture brings the excitement down. The base tower flag poles help distinguish team sides opposed to the tired red/blue lights that populate most other CTF maps. Items are over abundant, a result of the symetric placement in this small map. In this case, less would have been more and triggers as well as trim on the lower gates provided better a better gameplay experience. |
