Good looks aren't everything I'm still undecided as to the intent of this map. At first glance it would appear to be a desert Face clone, but scale and unaccessability deny any CTF playing field, unless your a fan of Thorns... Then perhaps a Double Dom? nope, no destinct spawn areas which also rules out Bombing Run or other team gametypes. So it must be Deatmatch, yes, the name says DM. Yet the layout is terriblely uninteresting even if the scenary is inspired. &playerStarts and six weapon bases surround a central open structure containing the U-Damage. Secondary pick-ups can be seen and reached with serious effort on the bone-like portrutions from the sand. Build is another subject, a handful of custom meshes, dual layered terrain maps and some theme enhancing emitters compliment the scanty BSP brush work. A failed effort was made at zoning, then again zoning a single room open to the surrounding map would not benifit anything I could think of, and may have caused the terrain actors to blink out of exsistance from view. Gameplay was flat as the sand. The author mentions taking the Lightning Gun to the outer edge for a snipefest, yet failed to provide ammo for the effort. As a result, players dodge about the building awaiting the next U-Damage to spawn. Unfortunately with weapon stay off, you might be fighting with only shield guns and translocators. Bottom line (from the level intro). "Azufron - a hot and wasted moon. Due to the extreme heat the last colonialist has left a long time ago. The neverending hot wind won't cool you down as you try to stay alive..." Take a screenshot and leave.

Pros: 1) Looks good, 2) Plays allright
Cons: 1) Don't go running off into the distance there is nothing there but eye candy, 2) I wanted to get up those towers - but there is no functionality to the map at all. No ifts, jumppads....nothing. 3) need at LEAST 10 players for an OK game. 4) interest factor needs work
I design maps myself m8 - I know how hard it is! :)
THe map is worth downloading because of it's concept. reminded me of Arrakis from the film "Dune". I liked the film and I generally liked the map. It would be good if there was an intracite little industrial inside area. Would turn my rating of 4 - 7 if done right!

But unfortunately, this map really lacks gameplay-dicating architectural elements. Well... it's pretty flat. Ok, you can walk on those bone thingies, but that's about all z-axis you'll get in this map. Still... appetising theme, especially the sandstorm effect looks nice :)
Cheers, Lugg
