From the readme: Based on the idea of Tim Kew Jarvis and his Penal Colony. Deep within the Nali Jungles, a Penal Colony stands, crumbling, and untouched, for years. The last to ever set foot in there was an explorer a few years back, named Kew, who almost lost his mind as he got lost within the walls of this forsaken Penal Colony Prison. Of course, it was later converted into a Capture the Flag arena about 100 years later. Now, the tournament members have played here numerous times, and strange things have happened to them, mental insanity and much more... If you listen closely, you can still here the cries and echoes of the dead prisoners as they were torchered to their death... I couldn’t here the cries of the dead prisoners but everything else is there! Creaks of cages, screams of titans, cobwebs, prison cells, torches, it’s all there. CTF-Nalipente has something for all players, close combat and sniping are all representated. Jaunie’s first CTF map as stated in the readme, my first CTF review :) Well, we better get started shouldn’t we?
In te graphics department it all looks good. In my eyes Jaunie managed to get a bit of the old Unreal feeling into the map. Though there are some probs here, the map is loaded with BSP bugs, and some are VERY visible to the eye. Also I experienced some performance issues, mainly when using the maps highest botcount and there were big fights going on on the main walkway. The texturing has been done fine. Though she did use wall textures as floor textures, and the vine-leaves texture was a bit repetitive. Onto lighting then. Nothing wrong in this department (again). All lights have their sources, except for some reds and blues, but those are merely to indicate what base you’re in. I did spot 2 torches in the blue base that have got a flame, but haven’t got a torch beneath it, but I think Jaunie just forgot about them.
The map was slightly boring. At first when you’re still looking at all t3h pr3ttay eye-candy Jaunie has built for us you don’t really notice it. Due to the very simple floorplan (1 Main walkway and 2 side-hallways, crossing with the main walkway just before an elevator leading to the Flag) and the average botpathing the map doesn’t score high here. The point is that when you get to the flag and manage to take it into one of the side-hallways, it’s almsot a certain capture. The bots almost never use the side-hallways when attacking and hardly ever follow you when you use them. The item placement on the other hand is (once again) good. Always a weapn nearby when you spawn, good balancing and some very hard to get special items, as the damage amp and the invisibility.
Sound here is briljant, lots of dynamic sounds (creaks, screams, birds singing, frogs quacking. It contributes hugely to the atmosphere. As does the music, which is the Utemple song from Unreal 1. Great choice :) !
Conclusion: That all sounded pretty good didn’t it? Well, this conclusion may come a bit as a surprise for you. In all departments Jaunie has done atleast above average. The map’s got atmosphere no doubt, but I didn’t get the prison feeling. Despite of the great sound and the good looks Jaunie has missed the snare for me somehow. The map hasn’t got the eerie looks it’s supposed to have. The sounds are just ‘background-music’. The map’s got good atmosphere, just not the right one when I think of deserted and decayed prisons. It does get a high score though :D

| Vulpekula 03-23-2003 12:57 AM MST | Rating: 8 | | I like the map Jaunie, I know you can do better on some aspects though. But over all awsome, continue the good work. 8 in my book.

PLAY THE MAP FIRST!!! its actually pretty decent. the textures are ok, i like the green in it, the vines add a nice touch, as does the pool in the middle, and the foliage is also good (for the unreal engine). gameplay is balanced, but a little too easy for sombody to snipe through the draw bridges or the windows in the side towers covered by more foliage. (but thats why there are the hallways on the sides, right?). the bots are average, and its a bit too easy to get stuck on the fallen bricks. i'm not sure how the file is so big, 3 megs! and the map is physically small too. the main walkway in the center is laggy, somthing in the code isn't very efficient. on a PII 400 Mhz 384 pc100RAM and a TNT2-like card or less your FPS in the center of the map is about 10 or 15 at best. it could also be the many plants in the area that lag it down. in the end, if you have a mid-range system, and the guts to play maps you download, then this is a rather good map. ist worth the time to download it.

| Algus 06-08-2003 02:52 PM MDT | Rating: 7 | | The colour's a favourable change From the bland and earthy brown range. Though please take my advice, The green water's not nice, To ingest causes cancer and mange.
| Jaunie 07-16-2003 06:29 PM MDT | | Thanks for all the comments! :) I'll keep them in mind as I built JB-Nali'Pente, based on a different section on the temple. :) (also at night :o wee!)
Anyways, Yeah, I tend to learn towards looks and forget to pay attention to gameplay.
I'll work on those weaknesses. If you can comment anymore on this stuff please tell me.
People who don't play maps before reviewing == failure :p
| Shadowlurker 07-28-2003 03:18 PM MDT | Rating: 6 | | I actually dislike this map now (hence my removal of my 8 comment). Bland and with bad gameplay.
| RamboSnakey 08-04-2003 10:30 AM MDT | Rating: 9 | | Ehmm play map first, Then give score. U want Unreal style, You get it now. Great map.
