| | File Name | ctf-icefields.zip | Author | guyver1 | Gametype | UT2k3 Capture The Flag | Date Added | 02-12-2003 | File Version | 1.00 | File Size | 1.31 mb | Player Count | 8-12 | Map Description | Conversion of BR-Icefields. Bomb Spwan point replaced with Keg of Health and ice ledges removed from around the flag platform. Other than that its identical to the original. Made it primarily for clans/online play. So the bot pathing and AI might be a bit weird. | Review Rating | -- | User Rating | 1.5 | Overall Rating | -- |

| Spitroast 02-23-2003 07:24 AM MST | Rating: 0 | | Is it just me, or does there seem to be rather a large abundance of recycled crap that "authors" are uploading and claiming as their own? I mean what the **** is this - you've changed some item placement: big friggin deal. That takes sooo much skill - to add some flags and a keg 'o health, to turn a BR into a CTF. What the hell was wrong with Icefields as a bombing run level? Instead of wasting everyone's time regurgitating someone else's work, why not make a map of your own - or are your UED skills limited to just changing item placement? Do you really think people will bother to dowload this map? I for one can say it will be sh1t without having to download it, because it is not your original work. Isn't that what people come to Nali City for, to see ORIGINAL work by authors? I mean, come on, I would be REALLY interested to know how you can even come close to calling this your own work. And another thing, you can't even spell - you call the map CTF-Icefileds - you suck - double check your spelling before you upload n00b.
Stop wasting everyone's time, and i hope legend sues your ass.
| guyver1 02-27-2003 07:32 PM MST | | 1. This ISNT my own work. 2. I DONT claim i MADE this map 3. YES all i did was remove the BR goals and the Bomb Spawn point. 4. ALOT of ppl asked for a CTF conversion coz they tought Icefields would make a killer CTF map. 5. Nali City made a TYPO ERROR and called the map CTF-Icefileds, if you bothered checking the zip file name you'll see its CTF-Icefields. 6. PPL Enjoy gametype conversions as they change the dynamic of an already great map. CTF-Cybrosis for example. 7. I am NOT taking credit for the original map design and the countless hours the designer poured into it. all i am putting my name to is a CONVERSION plain and simple. 8. your ranting is pathetic and childish and your arguments weak and totally flawed and unfounded, you obviously posted that during a mindless anger episode. you need help.
[Admin: Just for the record, NC did not make any typo as the map's name is what was submitted.]

Z-E-R-O
UPDATE: Sorry, I'm a mapper, and he did nothing outstanding other than duplicate stuff, move stuff around and arrange items and shit.
Giving this map anything above a 0 says that the map was done by him, and it wasn't. You may find it fun, but in the end it's someone elses work. You don't take the Mona Lisa and scribble a penis in her mouth and then expect people to congradulate you with awesome ratings. It may be neat, but in the end...all you did was sketch a penis on someone elses paintings.
all you people giving this map 5s and 7s should be ashamed, sit down and shut the hell up.
| Louise 02-27-2003 09:13 PM MST | Rating: 7 | | At least he has taken the time to do it. Yes it take a lot of time, I mean in some maps. Cause myselt I did that a couple of time. And sometimes it is not easy at all. I think that you did a very good job of it. Great work, keep on.
| Freak_ 04-25-2003 07:44 PM MDT | Rating: 0 | | Go Mister_Prophet!!! I think your doing really well by cracking up all these maps with a zero... But on the other side I do agree it might be funnier the CTF-way but it's still a stolen idea. I cant believe that this isn't illegal!!! So... that's all folks.
| Czm21x 04-26-2003 05:13 AM MDT | Rating: 5 | | For this to work well as a CTF map you should have removed that area where the ball is in the original BR version. I don't know if anybody who tried this map ever ran with the flag in that area to get over to the other base. Why would anyone? It's a long u-curve that leads to a deadend. Bots never go to that area whether they have the flag or not. Then added some other route that's as long as the route through the small cave. Plus there should have been other changes to make it a good CTF map.
| Flytag 07-28-2003 02:37 PM MDT | Rating: 0 | | Actually, I think that if the creator has given consent as well, then it's cool. Hey, you know that comment Prophet said on the Mona Lisa with a penis? Well, actually I'd hate to argue this, but Marcel Duchamp came up with a piece of work during Dadaism in 1919... pretty much used Mona Lisa, put a moustache on her and titled the piece of work 'L.H.O.O.Q.'. When read aloud in French the translation becomes "(L)Elle (H)a ch(O)aud (O)au (Q)cul" or rather "Elle a chaud au cul" which means in english that "She's hot in the ass". Pretty funny if you think about it... anyways, my theory on this analogy is quite a two way street. It is the ongoing debate of questionable legitimite derivativeness that we consider one of those controversial issues. Whether or not the creator's work (with or without consent) is a paradigm that permits the opportunity for others' interpretation; if this should be considered as a form of insult or praise; whether or not these "re-designers" are alloted to this possible form of negligence and if so, to what degree of clemency is given to them? I'm sure this controversal issue will pose as an ongoing debate in many generations of society.
Listen... my point is... well, I guess I don't have a point. I think that this map was not meant to steal work intentionally and promote it as his own work, but rather, a gift for the fans who wanted to play a this map as something else other then its original form. If proper regards is supported in his readme file, and (better yet) the author has given consent, then I see no problem with it. In any case, if anyone has a bone to pick, then please do so with 'Nude Satin skins'. You're better winning a debate there in any case since it's a good starting point for stolen credit. I loathe those skins anyways, as they do nothing really for the community except maybe get the usual select few to go and buy UT2003 'skin' accessories, like hand creams and tissues...
...don't you think it unfair to rate others in comparison with ourselves? For expamle, I am not a mapper. I know not the slightest bit about making a map. Would that mean because I can't do what this guy has done, should I give him a solid 10 for his competence in tweaking maps?
well, I'm giving him a zero... but with good faith. Only because it's not his... it's a good map nonetheless I'm sure, and I'll even go so far as to say It's a good conversion, but only unless you did the level design from scratch would I give this a justified rating. I will consider the author's comments and assume that it was created with the idea in mind of pleasing a particular audience (those who wished IceFields to be CTF), and therefore conclude that he should not care about the rating, and therefore be deducted properly for a comparison to full-fledged submitted maps. Congratulations on a wonderful conversion though!
| Shig 07-28-2003 08:10 PM MDT | Rating: 0 | | If I knew how, i would've said what Flytag just said a long time ago, but I just don't have the articulate-ness (see?).
It's a fun CTF map, I recommend giving it a go, but it doesn't deserve to be rated as an original piece of work.
