Ok, i was interested about a couple of the comments made about this map so i decided to give it a damn good going over. After about a minute of this i started to think to myself (what the hell am i doing here).
Basically the original phobos here (heaven knows why), Wierd scaling and some badly scaled meshes all add up to quite a boring uneventful map. Texturing is so boring i could almost fall asl....Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzz!. Oops where was i, oh yes the map. Textures are aligned badly. Eyecandy is very sparse, infact there is none. 1 sided meshes outside the windows are see-through. White lights create blue corridors? Weapon placement is not thought out and the bots dont work too well. I have to say the main phobos room at the bottom is soooo way out of scale its funny. Ahem! sorry.
seriously though! Not 1 improvement on the original, infact no where near as good. I think this must be the mappers first attempt at a ut2003 map and if so then its to be expected, however i cannot score this map well at all, due to the fact the ut2003 engine does not deserve to be used in such a haphazard manner.
One word sums this map up, infact ill be clever and use three...Bland, Boring and arcitechturally unsound. Hmmm thats four words but what the hell. If you wanna DL this map then go ahead, but to be perfectly honest i wouldnt bother. Cmon guy you can do better :). I dont write this review to discourage you, just well, be inventive and let those juices flow next time. As for the guy below who gave it a ten....PtinG.
At least the guy is trying and im sure his maps will get better now hes getting to grips with the engine.
I would put a screeny up but there are probs at the mo it seems.
Gaian said :" Id like this map to be reviewed again and CrystalfaT, please try capitalising your prose." This map wont be reviewed again here. As for the capitals, get out more kiddo. LMAO. |

| SirTahngarth 02-21-2003 04:31 PM MST | Rating: 3 | | No Levelshot, No Download(TM).
In response to the map description, that doesnt mean much if I dont see the level shots here. Furthermore, NC take the shots you see directly from the map, not from a jpeg in the zip, so if they arent showing up there is either a problem with the map or with NC3.
And no, I'm not trying to be picky about "NC rules." (I dont actually know if theres a rule against it or not.) I just feel that if the author doesnt take the time to put a levelshot material in the map, that says something about the overall level of quality. A map is not finished (IMO) until it has everything a map needs to play, and for me the map levelshot is one of those things. I want to see what a level looks like before I download it. and then, even if it looks like crap, ill check it out so I can give an opinion about the content of the map. In saying all of this stuff I'm simply trying to make sure that every mapper puts in a level shot. Ill give this one a chance as the admin points out when im back at my comp with 2k3 on it.
[Admin: Consider it a problem with NC3 and go download the map.
NC3 does not guarantee that maps with screenshots will have the screenshots on the map's page, therefore you should give mappers the benefit of the doubt.
If you do download the map and the screenshot it missing, but its a good map... you have a good map on your harddrive now. If not, you can give constructive feedback on how to improve the map.]
(response to admin edit) well, it certainly seems I wasn't too wrong on this one, eh? its my policy not to download maps without a levelshot. dont go beating me down for it. If I hear good things about it from other people who dont have such a policy, then I'll go give it a chance. While NC isnt perfect, i've found it to be more likely the map actually doesnt have a levelshot than there to be a problem with NC.

Also, the level screenshots can be added by the mapper, you have no idea what your talking about. If you have uploaded a map, you would know this.
OH BTW, this map gets a 10, nice map.
| 1/2LuNaTiC 02-17-2003 09:00 PM MST | Rating: 1 | | WTF once again another noob rates a map perfectand thisis far from it. Review sums it all up. Looks like I'll make me own remake of Phobos since this says beta it already looks like its heading in the wrong direction.

| Theshark 02-18-2003 03:48 AM MST | | Thanks for the comments guys. Believe it or not it's appreciated. For those interested in this map working out. all comments are welcome. Basing my next release on Lunatic's 9 fault finds from the first version. I am have scaled the map, added jumpboots, revised certain elements architecturally, put music to the level so far. I am going to continue to add a sh*tload of static meshes to the level even though there weren't any almost in the original. (i.e ceiling pipes, vents, wall pipes etc...) Textures are going to be vastly varied. Sound and emmitters are being added everywhere yet discreetly to enhance atmosphere. my zip comes with 5 x screenshots and will continue to come with those 5 screenshots. Low gravity has been completely removed from the map. bot pathing is going to be optimised and finally and seemingly most imprtantly lighting is going to be altered slightly to ensue "realism" of light from light sources. also to enhance again adding to atmosphere. I am 100% confident when the final version is released in about 4 weeks we'll only be talking in praise, but we'll see. If anyone (Based on the above) thinks i am going in the wrong direction. post a comment. I am always reading!
PS - Rating 5 - cos i cant post a comment without it

| Gaian 02-19-2003 06:02 PM MST | Rating: 0 | | I'd like this map to be reviewed again and CrystalfaT, please try capitalising your prose.
Rating - None because I haven't seen the map yet.
| Czm21x 02-27-2003 01:40 AM MST | Rating: 4 | | Like I've said before. These maps were great in UT, but it would be better if there were less UT--->UT2003 conversions. If you're still playing UT like I am then duplicate maps are redundant.
