Be nice, Flush twice
Joking aside, This map blows wet chunks. The only fun I had against bots was in excessive overkill burping snot up into spawing enemies. I couldnt find anyone serving up this CTF in a fish bowl and have a sinking feeling as to why. It does introduce total submersive gameplay. The biggest flounder would be the lighting, next the texturing and last the architecture, well atleast floating platforms kinda work here... The ambiant zone lighting washes out the poorly aligned beam thingys. The map could benefit from better texture selection and scaling, something alittle more aquadic and less linear for the octaganal ends. No ambiant sounds or effects are present either. Some seaweed or bubble generators are my recommendations. Item placement favors the Red team IMO, but only by a small amount of swim time.
The readme points out some UT flaws, like the verticle swim problem disabled until your next respawn, and the inability for Bots to follow pathnodes underwater, no polo for you!. A music track is selected and a secreenshot with a recommended player load of 16+ (with only 14 playerstarts?). The jugs-o-health help stay off drowning a bit, scuba gear would have been even better or reducing the zone damage, lowering the zone friction might also speed movement. An obvious ploy to gain Ownage, CTF-ThornsV6 should have been built for UT2003. The versitile layout would make a great Deathball, Double DOM or even Bombing Run map. Better than most box maps (I dont mean retail, well maybe), download all 92k and get ready for a pool party Bangy style. |

| Fernando 01-25-2003 11:11 AM MST | Rating: 2 | | I was skeptical when I downloaded the 93kb map and I still don't understand why it was so highly rated. This CTF map is one highly lighted water-filled room.
The entire room is filled with water, and there is no place to go for air. This makes for sluggish movement and of course, constant drowning.
The three kegs of health in the middle can keep one player alive for an extended period of time, but that is still not enough to last the whole round.
Playerstarts exist on each side of the map, near their team flag. Bots don't seem to understand how to reach the flag on the opposite side of the room, or even when the flag is dropped. I opened the map with the editor and I would guess that the position of the flag is to blame. (The flagpole is not plugged into the floor of a brush)
Because of the AI failures, this map is not suited for botmatches. This one-room type of map may be interesting to play on the internet with other people, however...
Spitroast-> go to the bottom of the page and look at Bangout's name appear right next to MassChAoS, Varpu and Yoda. I wouldn't come to the conclusion so quickly that everyone posting here was insulting a person so prominent in the NC community. I'm sure that some of the people posting here were his friends.
Sarcasm is misleading, and people who are searching for good maps to play will have these appear on the searches. At least I'm fair in my posts. I have the level described and errors addressed. Finally, I gave the author advice of repositioning the flagpole so that bots could find it.
This site exists to help map designers perfect their maps and share them with the community outside their circle of friends in an effort to improve the gaming experience of UT. It's clear to every game designer and most players that a 93kb map can't be very good. What about the players who enjoy these small CTF maps? The sarcastic posts don't tell them anything, so I had to let loose the truth.
| Louise 01-23-2003 07:26 PM MST | Rating: 1 | | I agree whit you Fernando. To make a map like that it take 1 or 2 hrs. I don't know where the fun play is. But it is a question of taste. And whe have to respect that. Us whe don't like it, but other's will love it.
