Maps like these passed for crap in UT, in UT2K3 they just make you cry. Obviously an early attempt by a learning mapper, but this is clearly a waste of time for anyone to d/l.
I wont speak about Visuals because there arent any, cube calls that go around and around with basic wall arches. Thats it. Really, thats the map. This map could have been made 3 years ago for UT and still be considered fugly.
The author seems to think the map is interesting to play. I didnt. I hope most of you dont either, unless youre the kind of person who loves to play in cubular corridor maps with your buddies.
The Prophets Verdict: Dont bother with the download, this map does not rate with UT2K3. It does run and bots do play, but thats the only positive thing I can muster about this one. Next?
TO THE AUTHOR: I suggest you not get saddened by this review. I wont offer many tips since Im reviewing this to appeal to the playing public. But If I were you Id spend a few months reading tuts and practicing your UED skills within the confines of your own computer and not release another map until your next map looks like something people may download. |

| Kee-Runch!!! 01-21-2003 10:58 AM MST | Rating: 3 | | Kind of boxy...lots of corridors. Drab. Not really complex enough to make a particularly great 1vs1 map...sorry, man.

| SirTahngarth 02-05-2003 09:28 PM MST | Rating: 0 | | even DM-LanMap is better (shudder)
| MortalPlague 02-06-2003 08:28 AM MST | Rating: 3 | | Well, it's definately not top of the line, or even an average level. But for a first map, this is pretty decent. The good points: he didn't put a Super Shock rifle in, he didn't put a redeemer in, and the weapon placement was fairly decent (though it favours the lower section. And though it wasn't the finest lighting around, it was sourced. Make use of the beta forums, and keep mapping!
| Paul 'Mas' Masek 01-18-2004 07:26 AM MST | | Thanks for the tips, hopefully i will be able to inprove with my next effort. [edit] Btw i havent been mapping for a long time, but having just upgraded to XP i might be able to start learning to map again for Ut 2003/2004[edit]
| Vertigo 02-10-2003 05:56 PM MST | Rating: 2 | | Steven Seagal is not interesting? i like his films...
| SuperApe 12-16-2003 05:52 PM MST | Rating: 4 | | ...and we haven't seen this mapper submit another since this got shot down so uncermoneously. This, as a 1.2Mb first time DM map for 2-4 players, is a little more than I would expect, actually.
Awe: 1.0; there's not a lot of decor. It's boxy and faux-industrial, but at least it's consistent. Build: 1.3; the map is solid and tho Z-Axis isn't acutally accessible and the map concentrates players to the crossroad passages, I don't see a 0.5 here. Cast: 1.2; a small, symetrical and simple design didn't call for anything special from gameplay with or without bots, but the author is right; having to dodge fire in a boxy hallway, going from arch to arch is challenging. At least he's thinking about supplying the map with usable cover. Bot paths were spaced properly for this kind of dodging action, well done there. Just a really neat effort for a first map. Total score: 3.5 (-> round up to 4)
The other commenters are right, keep looking at tutorials and search around UnrealWiki for more design ideas too.
