| | File Name | dm-cube.zip | Author | iNHUMAN | Gametype | UT2k3 Deathmatch | Date Added | 01-17-2003 | File Version | 1.00 | File Size | 40 mb | Player Count | 4-8 | Map Description | This is the first map I've done for UT2003. It's based off the movie Cube. The basic premise of the map (for those who haven't seen the movie) is that it doubbles as a deadly maze/puzzle. You can play it singleplayer, co-op, or Deathmatch. Unfortunetly it doesn't support bots very well. They just stand in one room and shoot at whomever enters.
Features: -Multiple deadly traps -Hidden weapons and health -Integrated number system (Hint: use the "u" key) -Reward to those who can escape the cube -Music and sounds right from the movie -Unique map layout

Very weird map and very hard to judge. This isn`t really a multiplayer map, more a singleplay map you have to play on your own without bots. Basically you have lots of cubes, like the movie, each cube is in a different color and has 6 exits, 1 on each wall. If you go trough an exit, you come into another room, and so on.. until you find the exit.
Graphically there isn`t a lot of stuff for the eye. There are lots of custom things, sounds, music, meshes, textures, etc. But those don`t contribute that much to the map, without them it would have worked well too and it wouldn`t been such a giant download. All in all graphics could have been executed better, various of things, such as the textures/shaders and architecture, could use some improvement, without that it interferes with the concept.
Gameplay may be fun for some people, but most people really wont like it, it`s more some kind of puzzling with a lot of luck. Very hard to judge, only download this map if you like puzzling and/or if you are a big fan of the movie, but don`t expect any cool visuals or furious gameplay. |

A few traps in some rooms, but other than that nothing special. Author says the map is based on a canadian movie, so I guess this map proves that some movies just dont make good deathmatch maps. Oh yeah, and no bot support. For a 40 meg download, I'd say definitely NOT worth it. If you're surfing on anything less than a DSL connection, take my word for it and pass on this map.

| Deathbliss 11-28-2004 01:07 AM MST | Rating: 6 | | Well I have watched BOTH movies, so I know what I should expect in a map based on them, and this one delivers. I loved the traps in this level that brought back the horror of the movies! Good job dude - I hope you make some more maps! I do have some tips for you...
Next time try to work on your texturing, and make sure your lights are sourced in some ingenious way. Not much option here with the cube being the way it is in the movie but if it was me I would have had some of the panels on the floors and ceilings be emitting light. Oh and make your scale a bit highter - each of the cube's rooms should be about half again as large. To path bots here you just use a Lift Exit at the rim of each door, a Lift Center over the hole, and another Lift Exit positioned just under the hole in the next room. Tie all the tags together so that the bots will use 'em. After this is done the bots should jump over and down through the holes. Make sure there is a weapon or some pickup in each room for them.
I hope this info helps you out - - Deathbliss

| Master roshi 06-27-2005 02:13 AM MDT | Rating: 10 | | Jot this a while ago. This is the first map based on the movie "CUBE" i have seen that does not insult. I have seen maps earlier based on the movie and the maps sucked. the mappers put no effert in to it. But this map is different. The mapper had to watch the movie alot of times to ge all the details correct. This map will also run in 2k4. Since I have seen the movie i alwas wondered what I would be like bein inside and this is as close as you can get w/o building hte real thing.. "Now there is an idea." As for the exit question. Yes there is one. But first you have to find the exit room. But that is harder than it sounds. the room like in the movie moves around. But in the movie all the rooms move around. But that would be really hard to do.
