To get an enjoyible frame rate you may have to turn some of the settings down, mianly the resoltion. It plays at about 30 Fps on my 2000ghz computer when i set the resioltion to 640*580... ya???
In the end i spent far too much time making this map and my girl friend will agree. But i think the final result turned out pertty good.
If you downloaded this map earlier and it did not work i am sorry about that.....but thanks for down loading it again...
Description : This Arctic Military Facility is used regularly to hold tournaments. In the late summer season it becomes a favorite of many of the contestants.

Apercevoir is a visually dominant map from author "garrahan". There is much detail to be seen about the map, and one can tell that alot of effort was put into making the map look good, and this was pulled off well. Lighting is done well also, as theres not much bigtime washing out or overdone coronas, etc. Architecture is good also, as one can probably tell from the screens. Overall, a solid map in the looks department. Nothing wowing, but its definitely above average.
The main problem with the map is low fps. I have a Geforce 4 ti4200 on a 1.6 GHZ, and I was dipping into red fps numbers. The author clued us into this, and he was right. So beware if you have a so-so rig. Other than that, the map is sound. The AI traverses all over the map, and I didnt experience any HOMs or anything (correct me in a comment if Im wrong). Movers and zones all work fine.
Gameplay was pretty good in terms of layout and fun factor. There was plenty of z-axis and some pretty open areas and a few cramped quarters here and there. Items were placed well with no overabundance of anything except maybe adrenaline, but that may be nitpicky. Good stuff in the department.
Pros: Gameplay, looks
Cons: Playability, minor quirks here and there
Bottom line: Go download it if you think your rig can handle it. Its worth it. |

| hawker 02-17-2003 05:40 AM MST | Rating: 10 | | Wow, this is the coolest map I have ever seen. Thank your girlfriend for letting you make this. This kind of reminds of "Five Deadly Venoms" for Quake 3. There are so many objects in this map. No wonder the previous version was such a framerate killer. This is sure to be on Cliffy B Ownage.
| Huntley 02-27-2003 06:20 AM MST | Rating: 8 | | I downloaded this after reading the author's comments just to see how my system would meet the challenge of this map's graphic requirements. I think the author is doing himself a dis-service by over-stressing this aspect, in fact it runs fine on a reasonably high end machine. I maintained a steady 60 - 70 fps with all the options on at 1024x768 on my XP2800 and Rad 9700pro, my friend's gayforce4600 got 50-60, so it was very playable. And it was fun. No errors that we could find, a very varied layout with lots of eyecandy to keep a player interested, but not too much so it got in the way. Flow was good for the run-and-gun fellows, and those who like to stop a moment to lay down an ambush had a fair few good spots to lurk. Sounds were overall well done, perhaps more ambience in the transitions between inside and outside locations would have helped the realism factor but this is just nitpicking. There is plenty of z axis action available, more so if you use the translocator and/or quad jump mutator. And the bots - they found there way around well without getting stuck, seemed to use all the weapons and generally were hard to beat. A good map, it will stay in my rotation, although I might not get it out if I have friends around with low end machines. On the other hand, I just might.. hehe.

As the author says, framerates are on the low side, however considering the amount of detail in the map, he's done well keeping framerates as high as they are. Gameplay is not bad, much better than in the old version, but could be better yet. I noticed one BSP error (looking up towards doorway from angled corner on structure above 100 shield) but it shouldn't affect gameplay.
| Burner 02-28-2003 12:33 PM MST | Rating: 6 | | There is such a thing as too much detail as this map proves. By no means a bad map, a lot of effort has clearly gone into the design and I think the flow is better than some of the comments suggest, but not enough to make me shell out for a geforce fx and the cooling plant it needs. One for alienware owners....
| Nanikore 04-13-2003 02:46 PM MDT | Rating: 7 | | The level was well laid-out. Produced some intense fights in certain sections. Got snagged by meshes but it didn't hurt too much.
| yupalisk 04-23-2003 03:19 AM MDT | Rating: 7 | | Nice layout, the central area is big enough for some good sniper/shock fests, and the z-axis is used liberally throughout. I like the fact that the sniper is on both sides of the upper levels. Good flow.

Overall, well worth the download.

| mersil 06-16-2003 10:59 PM MDT | Rating: 10 | | There is No such Thing as Too Much Detail........
do you go around with a patch over one eye .. ehh ?
If my machine cant handle it. then its time to make another upgrade. simple as that .
Love it, now go tell your girlfriend.....Thanks.

| abcde 06-18-2003 04:25 PM MDT | Rating: 7 | | Yeah! It's a nice map. Congratulations for the prog. See.
| OMGTTFS 06-20-2003 11:21 PM MDT | Rating: 8 | | Great map but some collision hulls are missing or other minor errors present which don't really affect game play but still, the map just isn't as good if you can walk through the pillars near the flack cannon. Just an observation, other than that I found the map a lot of fun and feels like it could have been shipped with the game. Hats off to the mapper.
| Homeslice 06-23-2003 07:17 PM MDT | Rating: 7 | | Quirky in some spots, but I love this theme, and the detail is great too. It can be a pain to play though for my machine. But keep it up! Great stuff.
