Hmm.. Maybe some of you think I’m too harsh on maps, but i feel the need to be subjective and considering how easy it is to put a few meshes and a couple of lights in a box and make them look cool it needs someone to say ‘NO’ that’s just not good enough. OH! This has nothing to do with this map review though :), back to the review. First of all this map flows really well and as a CTF map there are lots of options into the bases. i.e below, straight ahead, left, and right, when you leave the base room you find yourself with 4 more choice of direction. This led to a lot of confusion whilst 8 of us were playing the game, but once we got used to the map it seemed to flow really well, and it is well zoned ------(I’ve got the flag (location))---- , believe me you will need backup in this map as there is a lot of distance shots available. The weapons are basically placed ok and there is enough health to keep a small village free of disease for 100 years. The theme of this map is somewhat confusing, Egyptian, industrial and desert island trees are all stuck in among the meshes. The author said in his readme that this is what he was trying to achieve, hmmm well all I can say is if u wanted to achieve a map that looks a bit haphazardly meshed then you did it. This is not to take away from some of the fine architecture he has implemented in the map, it’s just the theme that worries me. The lights (sigh) the lights need a lightsource, I keep harping on about this but it is only common sense, all your lights glow white yet the ambiance is green, then suddenly blue and the suddenly purple. The author really needs to work on his taste when it comes to lighting because it makes the map look really tacky in places. The bot paths work ok, but upon further investigation you will find that the main routes are broken between some pathnodes and also there is a lack of jumpspots, these are quite minor things thoughand do not greatly affect the gameplay. Sounds are ok, industry noises etc, nothing really special, but good enough. (goto the end of this review for my opinion on the Beatles song) I did however spot a HOM (hall of mirrors) bug its in the blue base when the flag is up to the top left hand corner. This needs to be dealt with because it provides the perfect flag camping spot.
Finally. I would say that this is well worth a download and with a few tweaks it could be a very, very good CTF map for a lan rotation, the main strengths of the map are the game flow and the actual architectural design, although its confusing at first, when u get used to it this can be a lot of fun as it was for me. The main weakness is (apart from the HOM) is the colours which look like a seedy whorehouse, FAR too much adrenalin, and some of the choice of meshes just seem bizzare.
An afterthought....Get rid of the hey jude sample m8, before you get your ass sued and you have the PRS knocking on your door.
P.s sorry about the build score it would be a bit higher without the HOM. I have put a picture at the bottom of the screenies showing this to help the author.
WHAT I WOULD SAY THOUGHT IS THIS MORTALPLAGUE HAS A LOT OF POTENTIAL AND HES GETTING BETTER EACH TIME.

| Louise 02-16-2003 01:02 AM MST | Rating: 8 | | MP did a verry good job. It is a great map everything work fine. The bots fight like hell. The texture is good. And for the HOM well. When you play you don't have time to look at that. MP did a super map. And deserve a better score then 5 C'mon be serious about that. I saw here some map much more rated then this one and it was CRAP.
| MortalPlague 01-24-2003 07:56 AM MST | | Thanks for the review. I wish people wouldn't say the purple light in unsourced, though. It IS coming from the sky above... Perhaps I could've done some shadows for the girders, but oh well. That HOM does seem to be causing problems, as well as numerous other factors. I think if I do make another version, I'll remake it from scratch rather than fixing this one up...
| STelcontar 02-06-2003 11:43 PM MST | Rating: 8 | | Slightly complex and too much adrenalin. As for the mixed themes (egyptian, industrial and desert) a little creativity is welcome. There are enough paths without being too many or too separated. The lighting needs work, some places are too dark or dont match up well.
| Morgoth 02-15-2003 10:13 PM MST | Rating: 8 | | Very nice map. Lots of paths, takes a while to learn routes. Bots do very well on this map, the Hey Jude music in the link gun room is a nice touch. I went in there one time and 2 bots were just standing there, I swear they were diggin' the music LOL! Lots of mixed themes on this map,but somehow it works nice job!
