DM-Nightshift is an industrialish themed map set for around 6 people or so, Id recommend. As far as looks go, the map is very...clean. Some textures remind me of DM-Chronos, others of some DavidM maps...nothing out of the ordinary here, but the texturing is done fine in any event. Architecture isnt too complex either, as many spots of the map are square or cyldiner upon close inspection, but the good thing is that the author msaks this well. Static meshes arent overdone in the map, which is a good thing. Far too many maps are ruined with too much clutter. Lighting is also nicely done, although it felt like there were too many blues and reds, etc. In fact, most parts of the map have a slight blueish tint.

The map is done very soundly when concerned with technical aspects. There are ambient sounds for the various machines, pipes, etc, but they all sound similar and all seem sort of soft. Bots are pathed so-so; they put up a good fight, but they tend to cluster around the main area. I dont think I ever fought in many of the side rooms, and I played the map for awhile. As I mentioned earlier, the map is sound with texturing, although the map looks stale in parts.

The first thing I noticed about NightShift was the open feel. I must admit I like open maps more the closed ones, but since most/all of the fighting with the bots was done in the open, the map felt a bit too much like an arena. This could be good or bad depending on your view. I did do some z-axis fighting, which is a plus. Weapon placement is sort of strategic, at least from my perspective, which is a plus, but the clumps of two ammo packs seem random. I would have rather had two packs of ammo near the weapon as per "classic" or "normal" or however you want to refer to it.

Pros: Fun if you like open feeling maps, clean, good playability

Cons: Ammo placement, some bot pathing, almost feels like an arena map in places (con or pro depending on your pov), uninspired theme

Bottom line: I'd recommend a download unless you like fighting in cramped quarters. The map will run fine on pretty much any computer, and the map is definitely fun for a quick romp. The open quarters also helped me with my shock combo practice :P

Nice looking map. A little dark though. Maybe that was idea, given the name of the map. Lots of detail, good framerates and decent flow makes this one worth the download time for you 56k'ers.

5.5 actually but I can't enter that...

Not a bad map.

A largish map with large, interconnected, mostly wide open rooms containing ramps, ledges, catwalks, lots of boxes and the odd red light... Sound familiar? It really reminds me of DavidM maps though it's certainly not as polished. It's a bit overscaled IMO and a bit too open for my taste too. Definately has potential, but feels unfinished and is lacking the fine polish and attention to detail a really good map has. It could use some more work, particularly on trimming, lighting and item placement. Wouldn't hurt either if there was more cover, more z-axis flow and some useful trick jump opportunities.

This map is OK but nothing to write home about. Packed with bots it can be quite good fun. I don't mind open maps but somehow I felt something missing here, maybe I found myself looking for something to do a bit too often. Worth the download but will eventually disappear off my map list.

Although the first thing you notice are the UT1-like graphics (still good enough for my taste), you can immediately see that this map has potential. It's a good mix of different gameplay elements and it just feels right to me. Some flaws are the overused powerups (most in the main room) and the kegroom, which lacks movement options.

A good looking theme overall, the main problem with this map is you have to go pretty far to get a weapon after spawning. Other than that it's got some very fun elements in it.

Decent construction but average gameplay.
