Wow. Its time for large groups of BR fans to rejoyce.
Start downloading now, then read this, because the download will take a bit :)

Ill start with the negative first since its going to be short :). Because of the sheer size of the map (size of the file and all the mesh packages used, as well as the actually gameplay size), I wouldnt reccomend playing this if you have less than 384 MB RAM. It was choking on my machine, but not because of the polycount, rather because it couldnt keep everything loaded (yes I did have my IRC client and IM open, but thats all.) so there was a lot of swapping. If you have a good helping of RAM, this map should run pretty smooth. The fog in the cavern areas was a bit thick but not too bad. Lastly, you really need a big group for this map, it is just that massive. but thats also a good thing at the same time.

This map rivaled my experience with the best of the stock maps. the unique theme, mixing misty caverns with an outdoor valley, is something I can really toot my bass trombone to. I couldnt stop having fun on this map, even with the memory issues I was having. the bots play as good as you can expect on a map of this scope, and while the level is huge, its not so complex that you cant find your way around. The vastness of the map also means that youre going to need some actual teamwork to push the ball into the enemy territory. No obvious errors, good texture choices, very well built terrain, music choice is different, but OK, and the playability is great as long as you have a reasonably up-to-date machine. Visuals overall are somewhat simple to keep the framerate up, but simple in a good way as everything looks very nice. Probably not elaborate enough to catch the eyes of cliffyB, but theyre basically error free and perform well.

I cant imagine anyone not at least somewhat enjoying this map. Its not for a small group at a LAN party, but a refreshing change of pace if youve ever been on a server with 16 players on a fast map like twintombs. If youre machine is begging you for a RAM upgrade, nows the time :) Rock solid gameplay. Get it now.

Id like to stress that its soley the size (megabytes) of the files used by the map that might cause your performance issues. When my computer wasnt swapping memory the map was as smooth as silk, and since i assumed most people have more RAM than I do, it wouldnt be a problem :)

Simply the best *looking* outdoor themed map for UT2003 so far, beats everything else hands down.

As for gameplay, ouch :( The ball is quite hard to find for a start (use the BR-radar and you'll be ok tho) and there are some serious layout / flow issues.

Also, because of heavy demands of all the terrain layers (must be at least 4) the map jerks like hell, I have 512mb ram and a 64mb geforce3 ti500 and its almost unplayable... Its sad because it looks so gorgeous and has some very original ideas in it. The author is definitely very capable in the looks department but needs to focus more on gameplay and frame rates.

Download it to take a look around, its well worth it, but only bother playing it if you have the latest hardware.

[EDIT] - Weird, after a few times trying to play the map I set my texture detail to "normal" and the frame-rate must have jumped up at least 20 fps! So its now a lot more playable, and having played it quite a lot now its actually VERY GOOD. Scoring by jumping through the hoop is very cool as you fly down into the cavern, my gripes now would be

1) using the teleporter to get onto the top of the map is quite poor, shame there are not "proper" routes tot take as to add variety to the gameplay.

2) The swim you HAVE to take to get to the enemy base, this could be avoided with another route choice (see point #1) as its really easy for you to get sniped while in the water...

Apart from those gripes, its a great map provided you can get it run...

I agree, A very nice looking map. Playablility though needs some brushing up. This map should have been beta tested. If i'm not mistaking this was his second map. Not too bad.

It's really hard to judge maps like this one.
This map falls into the same category like DM-NebulousStone and DM-EternalOceans.
A really good idea, perfect terrain and breathtaking eyecandy...BUT UNPLAYABLE !!!
I hate to say it, but with a 1+Ghz PC and a GeForce 4 Ti 4200 I want to play a game on a higher resolution than 640x480 and with average detail settings. If a map isn't playable on that settings, I can't give it a higher rating !
This map could be soooo good, but nobody wants to stagger from one death to the next with 10 frames per second :(

Decent map. Nice change of scene. No framerate issues at all on my system, all settings maxed, and my system is just an average system at that, so no complaint there.

I agree with the teleporter issue, but I like the challange of the water swim. As with real life combat, not everywhere you go can be sniper-proof, and the more challange a map has, to me, the better. I like the ball being hard to find as well. It creates that "seek and destroy" feeling that I wish I could see more of in bombing runs.

The map itself runs VERY smooth on my computer, looks nice and I am keeping it in my rotation indefinately as a change-of-pace map in the rotation.

although i have a 1,8 ghz pc the map flows like mud. the overall map looks good but the ambience is totally wasted by the horrible music in it. all the fighting takes place in one place. Most BR arena's suffer from this but its never been this bad. the bases look good but are way to big. after playing for too long the score was still a 0-0 tie.

only download if your a hardcore bombingfan, dont mind bad music and have a really big pc.

pretty badly overrated, map runs horrible slow, and the graphics look very simple and basic
lots of prefabs, the same old style again, light is pretty zonelight like etc
and the gameplay really suffers alot from the slow fps, and the big size, the weird floorplan also doesnt quite help

This map should be renamed to BR-Geronimo

"GERONIMOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOoooooooo.........."

(damn it's hard to score on this map...)

I failed to find the gameplay on this map :/

And that decolayer is a bit tense, not good for fps.

The reason I found so much gameplay was from the fact that if you want to score youll actually need some teamwork- theres no way you can just make a beeline for the goal by launching and xlocing, and be a one man team and expect to get anywhere (the segmented layout makes self-passing less effective.) :)

it doesnt run choppy "due to large terrains." you dont know anything about this stuff I can see. this map doesnt require as much horsepower as it requires memory. get more RAM. and being big is why its good- for large groups that is. I dont like to take off points for slow performance unless that slow performance is due to major design flaws. some maps just require a high end machine.

lol... Unless I made CTF-AndAction id personally never rate my own map a 0... not that youre supposed to be able to rate your own maps anyway.... If its worth revising then im not sure why you think so lowly of it. So the requirements are a bit steep? About the only weak point in the gameplay is that with the teles being the only way in/out of bases, they are a big chokepoint. but thats where the teamwork comes in. I still stand behind my rating. :)

And if the revision is going to be even better, then I cant wait to get my hands on it :)

quote "it doesnt run choppy "due to large terrains." you dont know anything about this stuff I can see.""

- No obviously you don't know anything about this stuff. It's the terrains that chew all the memory.

Alright map but definitely not worth an 8. Runs very choppy due to large terrains. Way too big in areas.

Looks nice, original layout with use of water (rare in 2003), runs fine for me.

Pity it's a bit too huge and spaced out.

Not so good for me : fps often to yellow 30, both in cavern and outside with AMD 1700 and Geforce4 TI 4200 + 1 GO RAM. Water better than other maps, but I don't like water in UT2K : seems to be clear fuel oil rather than clear water :-). Big sized, but bots fight in the middle and scored 0-0 for a long time.

Hourences is right, my map sucks, you should be ashamed of yourself for giving it an 8, DONT DOWNLOAD MY MAP! On the other hand, you can all look foward to the revision of it, its gonna be REALLY good, I promise ;)

Oh yeah, this is my first map BTW

The map ran really slow on my computer.. but then, my computer is not very fast at all. For those of you who have good computers and still say it's slow... try turning down your pride and turning down the graphics settings. The games not that bad on lowest detail levels, even in low resolutions.
