A conversion of the UT map Niven to UT2k3. Floorplan left unchanged, only some areas are a bit bigger as the original, which was a good choice. Item and weapon placement is more or less the same as the original too. A thing that bothered me were some of the strange blocking volumes/collisions of some of the meshes, you walk around, and suddenly you hit some invisible wall, while the pillar is 5 meter away from you.
The graphics are pretty terrible. Lots of meshes aren`t lit up, so lots of totaly black architecture everywhere. On the places where they do lit up correctly, the light, tho it has lightsources such as lamps, looks pretty washed out and unsourced. Most of the light is pretty `white`ish`, use of some very satured lights indicate near what base you are, too saturated in my opinion. It also wouldn`t been bad if there was some more indication in which base you are once inside, in both bases the entrance corridor looks almost identical. There is also a lack of unity between a lot of the meshes, they don`t really fit together. Theme and sound are pretty non existing.
Only download this if you are really a big Niven fan. |

It had the same feel that UT-Niven does (I'll admit I love that map) which is all that I would expect from UT-map port.
The bot play was decent although I would take out the adrenaline, it doesn't add to the map (frags alone provide enough adrenaline) and it seems to screw up the bots when they are running out with the flag.
Maps are not museums. I want gameplay first and looks second. This map delivers on the first but does fail slightly on the second.

Also I would prefer solid ramps instead of the meshes used. This version just seems to not have the "Niven" factor of the original too, it needs to play nice and fast

That because conversions are marked on what has changed in the map from the original. Since the layout etc. didn't change at all then visuals is about all you can rate the map on and they ain't good anyways.
