Map DescriptionThis was my first map, an experiment in outdoors realism. The map's detail is very high, but honestly the gameplay is killed by low FPS.

This map looks great. It has all the technical stuff including meshes well done. It also has good support for bots, well placed weapons and even the ion cannon is correctly set up.

With all this stuff and beauty the map is almost unplayable unless You happen to be the lucky owner of a VERY fast machine. The map crawls. Framerates are well below acceptable for a deadmatch map.

Jon has obviously been attracted with all the new capabilities of the new engine and I must agree it shows out. This is how the UT2k3 maps should look and feel. Unfortunately we still have to struggle against the polycount and mesh count. Occlusion (visibility) also takes it's toll. A map having this much content should be carefully designed and zoned (helps occlusion).

If You have a fast machine with a very good 3D card (TI...) You might want to get this one and even enjoy playing it. Others will have to settle on enjoying the view - which is great by itself.

1. FPS, with me just having a look around it with no bots I had 15 fps in too many sections. I'm not a mapper but this Needs optimized badly.

Athlon 1.3 / GF3Ti 200 / 256 DDR2700 gets me 35 FPS avg in most big maps With Bots.

2. Weapon placement, you have RL/Ion/Deemer in easy reach on the ground sections, But youhave the mini flak etc on the higher sections, swap them about.

3. 2 Health kegs? never seen a DM map that required 2, plus the fact in one of the holes that has them you can get Stuck[the one near the Ion]

4. No flow to the map when it gets busy. In the tree section you try and chase a spamming sniper and you cant, cause of the gradient that stops you dead. Try smooting that out or change the gradient.

5. Should have been in the beta forum than a Full release.

I won't add my complaints i just wasted my time downloading this with my 56k cuz over at mapraider.com they gave this a good rating. Waste of time cuz of all the lag I get. My laggiest map is DM-Inferno but its still playable but this.....

I am sure that a lot of effort went into this map.
The terrain looks really beautiful and I liked the caves, the lighting and the placement of foliage, but I can't judge the gameplay of the map, because I had to quit after the first 10 seconds of gameplay.
This level is unplayable slow on my GeForce 4 Ti 4200 !
Even on the lowest detail settings I can't play this map with bots !
I wonder if the author actually played this map or if he just built it in the editor and released it...
Maybe some people with a 2+ Ghz CPU and a GeForce FX will have fun with that map.
I believe it would be nice if it would be playable :(

DOH! I screwed up when I made this map. Sorry about this one, guys. You're absolutely right, I got way carried away with details, made the map too open and didn't think hard enough about FPS and gameplay. There is a "lite" version at MapRaider.com with a bit better FPS, but the player load would still be limited.

When I make my second map, I'll make damn sure the FPS is the most important factor.

This map looks decent but plays like crap... At least it wasn't a cube with static meshes placed on it. 1/2 Lunatic's on crack tho, there's no score for this on Mapraider.

unless this map makes you hurl at the thought of it, for gosh sake please dont hand out zeroes like that- for me, the FPS was the only problem. put some antiportals in there, and some zoning, and it might get decent fps.

Very nice feel and look to this map, nicely done, but to much detail kept getting in my way trying to target the bots. As for the framerate well that was ridiculous. Typing in Stat Render revealed a high MS render of all the Emitter Particles. Way to many in the map and that was what killed my framerate as most of them were being rendered when facing the center of the map. The triangular shaped lumpy ground in places, left me pondering about the use of the smoothing tool. I know it works!

I played It , i Like the details. My system played it as well as any other high detail maps 20 - 70 fps, So therefore , GREAT Job on your first map !!
