Uberdome][SE is one of those maps that is made for the sole purpose of showing off a few gimmicks. The map centers around a space city encased inside a large (you guessed it) dome. Outside there is supposed to be a space fight going on between three different races, as indicated by the readme's brief description. But the plot of the map is irrelevant in this case. Look to the pic shown, that is the whole map in a nutshell; a big ring that circles a central group of buildings that are equiped with rooms and lifts and lots of teleporters. Items are placed around the map in excessive amouts, there is powerup galore here. If one chooses to fight outside, there is alot of wide open and flat terrain to cover, with occasional cover set in certain places. This map is HUGE, the player load says 2-20+ and thats no joke. If you should stray indoors however, the combat gets rather spammy since all the rooms are very small and filled with obstacles that restricts movement.
Now to the gimmicks, this map is loaded with 'em. There are buttons in one room that access jukebox like machines that play different music tracks on contact (if you happen to be in there messing with the sound system when somebody walks in, you are more or less screwed). Other buttons open trigger explosions that nuke the whole room and others display messages while even more buttons open stuff. Basically, going inside pretty much promises quick spammy doom. There are teleporters everywhere, a few may take you to your death. Only someone who actually knows the paths and triggers of all the gimmicks stand a chance of scoring the most kills.
I don't really care for gimmick maps, and most hardcore or oldskool players will be turned off by this map. But fans of humorous gimmick type stuff will find a new haven here, because...hell, theres alot of gimmicks. It is obvious that the Grimm Brothers designed this map for the sole purpose of dueling each other for fun, and while the map is large and is meant for lots of players, I suspect it will be played among smaller numbers.

The Prophet's Verdict: The map is large and the design is very simple. Gameplay and flow is erratic and jumbled due to the the exagerrated hugeness to the outdoors and the shockingly narrow interior. If you enjoy gimmick maps, this is probably one of the last great gimmick maps for UT and a sniper's wet dream, but anyone who enjoys fast paced fluid hardcore action found in smaller more balanced maps like the many generic tech maps or other Turbine wannabes, may be turned off the second they spawn and all their nightmares of gimmick hell come to life.

Umh. Hate to say that, but: textures are boring, and at least one of the spawing points gets way overcrowded regularly. But the real problem is the layout--the whole place just doesn't make SENSE. Not one single building is proportional to any other, or its interior to its exterior, or its very existence in any form related to its surrounding. It's not that the locational logic is different to what's expected of a place where people are supposed to live, or have lived, but there's no locational logic or coherence whatsoever. Some nice traps and some nice touches, though--then again, even the traps don't make much sense, and so the nice touches seem somewhat wasted.

parser: u don't listen. proportionality has nothing whatsoever to do with same width & length. but wth.

Ok, I've played the map, and most of my feedback is positive. ;-)
First thing I noticed was the wall textures right around the dome. Now it may be better if you scaled these up a bit to avoid them looking too repetetive. City maps are quite hard to make in contrast to other types anyway. I like the jukebox, but some of the tunes were a bit iffy. :P
I like the rest of it though, it's clear a lot of effort has been put into this map. And about the buildings not being proportional, wtf? They don't have to be. You name one city where all the buildings are the same width and length. Trawling through this city map is fun, and there was one bit with wire fencing on brick walls - I love that part, it feels like a real city.
So well done GrimmMacGregor, I like Uberdome. :-)

once again grimm lives up to herself by making things big...
too big IMO...
i played with 15 bots and didn't even encounter one...
also... it made me lag... and i have a gf3
the damage amplifier is well placed tho... i couldn't even get out alive...
all in all... the map is too big... textures are a bit repetitive... over use of mirrors...
still good tho...
i also took in count the fact that it is your first map...
i c alot of potentiel in you...

Please view this thread to get answers or rebuttals to your thoughts, questions, and comments. More fullsize screenshots are in this thread and I go into the some of the engineering aspects of this map as well rant about people not reading the README.txt file.

what is wrong with this statement kids
"A whole bunch of .umx files are included with zip, i have no idea why since theyre not all used.
Edit: I have found out. Theres a 'jukebox'. Yay. Why not custom music, wouldve been much better. Try Impulse Tracker."

A whole bunch of umx are included. Hmmm, wonder why that is? Maybe that is because I found them somewhere! Like NOT in the stock UT game! I found them at places that cater to .UMXes d00d! Damn... *shakes head*
As for rating my own map, what the heck are you talking about? The comment function does not allow me to post the comment without rating the map, yet, does not show the rating after comment is posted. (because Im the author, apparently)

Let me ask you folks something. Imagine you are a map author. You take the time to explain in detail how something works (like jukebox) and where you got the umx files, in a file called a readme (readme means what? hint: read it) then you find some comments by someone that could not be bothered to read that file, which explains everything. How would you feel? Irritated? Annoyed? Disappointed? That link I posted above? Is comments about questions or citicisms I got about the map. All the questions could have been answered if the person(s) had bothered to take two minutes and read the file provided with the zip, that explains it all. BlaBla's comments and my rebuttal will be now added to that thread. Making him customer # 3400 whose questions and comments were answered by simply reading the README!!!

k, well that's my sisters map alright and I'll comment on a few things so she will quit bugging me about it.

Watch your as5 this map has tricks this map has traps
just when you think you've found them all
someone will bag you from the one you didn't find
three modes of play-- floor brawls close quarters and sniping ---check it out

EDIT oh yea btw, I found uberdome on a server this morning, thought it was you grimm, but it wasnt
EDIT2 i once added 300 bots just for 5hits
it was disgusting and they fit too =]
EDIT3 woohoo!! 156 downloads in less than 2 days, chalk one up for GrimmBrotherProductions---nice going
EDIT4 I was going to rate you a 6 but, I added a point becuase you immortalized my 4x4 car by putting a pic of it in my office then i added a point cus of the nightclub then i added another point cus you added another Shadow ship that came at me out of nowhere and i almost crapped myself the first time i saw it fly over my head

I've played the map and here are some of my observations:

-A lot of work went into this map
-More work should have gone into this map

A whole bunch of .umx files are included with zip, i have no idea why since theyre not all used.

Edit: I have found out. Theres a 'jukebox'. Yay. Why not custom music, wouldve been much better. Try Impulse Tracker.

One of the main problems is the common spawn areas are prime feeding ground for spawn campers, killing the fun online. Flow should have been more thought out. Reactor area is cool tho, as is the nightclub. Framerates are ok. Its just fugly. Stuff doesnt mix well together, individually things would look ok.

Rating your own maps should be a crime. Also, time and effort spent is not a indicator of quality.

this map is totally out of control. flow is not bad once you play it a few times. have to agree the texs are a little boring and unscaled at times but lots of cool visual effects to make up for it.somewhat high polys at times tho, a fun map
