CTF-Apophis is a UT 2003 build of the UT map CTF-Jewel of the Warlord by Ratlord. The author has added several goodies to it, including jump pads, teleporters (which take you to a new bottom platform), and a sort of Egyptian theme in space. The rest of the layout will seem very familiar to those of you who have played Jewel.
What I Liked:
Bot play is excellent, additions are welcome and well-implemented, frame rates are stellar. Placement of weapons and items is well done, and while there is an Ion Painter/Cannon, it doesn't overwhelm the level. Flags are tough to cap, and the layout encourages good team play for success.
What I Didn't Like:
It's a remake, lighting isn't very good (and too dark in some spots). Sniping from top center section is a bit annoying, and too easy to succeed at. New bottom platform is relatively useless, except for use as a circuitous route back with the flag.
Overall:
This is a good map, should see plenty of server play. Kudos to Ratlord for the original and Abyss for doctoring it up. Recommended. |

| DialAJunk 12-30-2002 04:47 AM MST | Rating: 6 | | It's a pretty solid map; it does what it does pretty well... its just too linear for my taste. This does lead to cool "full frontal assault" type attacks that are very intense at times, but boring overall.
The flag is fairly easy to defend as attackers only come from one direction. This can either be concieved as good or bad depending on your taste.
It looks fine and not overly detailed, except for the mass amount of pillars everywhere which probably is the reason it performs so well.
The gameplay just isn't cerebral or tactical enough for my taste. Run and Gun!!!! (some may like that)
| lpBuF 12-30-2002 08:30 AM MST | Rating: 8 | | i likes this map a lot, it looks good, it runs pretty well and has actually been finished before release :D the bots were reallly hard on this map , they tended to camp around their flag , making it difficult to get through them alive. In fact, this is the only map where ive had to use the shield gun to escape :D The weapons are a little close to theflag for my liking , i think you shouldd move them out , onto the higher level surrounding the flag, then mabye the bots would camp less. a very good map :D

Nice snipping tower in the middle, above that the Ion cannon, which is always fun. Bots did pretty good, So far this is my favorite 2003 map, along with Arrakis. Keep up the great work it is appreciated!!
