BR-Bullet1Down is an outdoorsy map with underground/indoor bases. The concept of the two goals being right next to each other but separated by an electric fence is neat. The author included his own meshes and models which is neat, including the spaceship with the neat little light effect. The fence has a nice effect as well. However, the rest of the map could have used some work in this department. Theme is nothing special, and although there are some neat ideas, most of the outdoor area is fairly flat with the exception of the middle gully, and theres nothing that hasnt really been seen before, unless you havent seen that electric fence effect. Texturing is decent on the terrain, but the rocks and indoor could use some polishing.
Bots were a letdown to me, first and foremost. They got stuck in the lifts way too many times, and I often saw the other team standing around unless the ball was near them. I went down the lift to try to score one time and saw at least two bots just standing around on my way there, and they sure werent defending anything. The lifts do work, although a few times I did go to the wrong lift, since one is on the top and one is on the bottom. Sound effects and music are included, although theyre nothing noteworthy unless you like that electric crackling :P. Brush work on some terrain and rocks could have been improved as well along with texturing.
Gameplay is very linear, as the lifts are the primary source to the goals. Item placement is ok, although I would have liked to have seen more spread. Some ammo seemed out of place, and the bio rifle placement made no sense to me. There is absolutely no z-axis unless you consider shooting rockets down the tiny lift z-axis, which I dont. The map runs fine, which is a good thing. For some reason, however, I had trouble jumping into the goal...one must double jump to score, but the bots as well as myself had some difficulty getting a full 7 points. Also, if the map were to be played online, the defense would have it too easy, since the ball carrier must come down a lift and cant see whats below him. |
