Mr. Evil's BR-BrokenGorge is set outdoors, with lots of terrain issues to deal with as you try to move the ball along to the goal. Passing through the forest area is not very feasible, and the placement of weapons and ammo at the top of the huge vistas is pretty much silly. You could spend as much time trying to get up there to get the Ion Painter as you could scoring a goal. The layout is kind of clunky, and could have been set up so as to not force your route through that center forest area.
Getting the ball in the goal is tricky business in this level, due to the limitations on travel due to the hills, trees and tall vistas that surround this level. The goals themselves have three paths leading up to them, but I found them to be rather easily defended.
What I Liked:
Outdoor levels rule, in general. There's plenty of eye candy to make your Bombing Run experience better. Bots seem to perform rather well. Framerates are fine.
What I Didn't Like:
Clunky layout, poor weapon/item placement, especially those that are located on the top of the vistas. Too easy to defend.
Overall:
Middle of the road Bombing Run level. Gameplay is ok, but it just doesn't have a good feel to it. Author shows some adeptness with UnrealEd, so it's probably a smart thing to keep your eyes out for future levels from him. |

| Goomp 01-02-2003 12:56 PM MST | Rating: 7 | | Usually I agree with the reviwers opinion, but not this time. This map deserves a higher rating. It features one of the most realistic outdoor terrains I've ever seen in UT 2003 and the gameplay is also good. The weapon placement is strange, but not bad. It's a good idea to make weapons harder to get by placing them on top of the cliffs. Indeed, that spots are easy to defend, but who wants to stand on the same place for 15 minutes anyway...I believe that most people will grab the weapons, jump down and continue hunting the ball in the cool looking jungle environment. There are no bugs in that map and the FPS are very good, so I recommend it to everyone !
| Klaa 04-11-2003 02:38 PM MDT | Rating: 8 | | I agree with Goomp on this one, BUT I did find a single bug that greatly discourages me as far as multiplayer. For some reason when I use this map on my server, it bugs the client computers, giving them a "corrupted connection" warning, then they cannot multiplayer with me until they reinstall their UT2K3.
This doesnt happen on other maps, and we ran the LAN through several tests and each time the problem originated with this map. Still, I love the map in single player at least and that is what I am basing my score on. I didnt dock any points for the multiplayer issue as I am going to assume that it is just local to my LAN and an internal issue despite this being the only map that causes it.
Sweet work.
