Map DescriptionWith the success of the first installation on the electric fields of Earths former Russia, it was decided at Liandri corp that a second venue was needed to take advantage of the astonishing but highly dangerous surroundings. This abandoned relay station seemed the perfect place due to its notorous structural instability, and its picturesque settings.

I can't decide if I like the mechanical mayhem architecture or not. Visually appealing doesn't always equal appealing gameplay and after the intial awe dies down, the repetitive sprawl is reduced to a two planer symetrical assymilation of lengthy catwalks and scrawny beams. While this might support the thematic appearance, only the level summary gives any hint as to the function of this structure. What bugs me even more is that I've seen that skybox before, but where... Something about those clouds don't look right either.

Plenty of custom and stock meshes combine like a wacky Erector Set(tm) to provide some surfaces to play on. Like an over-sized jungle gym, combat arises most often in the middle of the monkey bars, in this case the circular gangway to which all paths eventually will lead. The open architecture doesn't allow for the use of anti-portals and the FPS spikes show it. Another frame rate saver ommision is blocking volumes, not only would these reduce lag from weapon fire they would also help prevent players from getting hung up on the less friendly architecture or falling through smaller holes in navigatable areas.

As a deathmatch map, DM-Vertigo is too spread out and its long ramps have no real platforms big enough to field more varied styles of combat. Bots did not hold up to my run-n-gun assault around the middle loop. A T/L trip to the outlaying healths was about the extent of travel required by the map and the closeby spawn points continueously provided fresh meat. Leaving the Minigun and Link Gun on hand the most common causes of death, and the other pick-ups out of reach with out making a costly expenditure in no-frag time.

Not the best of arenas, this map is a good looker. With only 7 player starts spread out radially, best to adhere to the author's quota of 6 players. Perhaps we'll never know if rust ever sleeps, dried blood looks the same here to me. Yes, even if the layout might support other gametypes better, I would give this map a peek, but only an average score.

Download This now :D
This map looks cool and doesn't lag too bad either. (not sure for you ppl running lower pcs) Alright first I gotta get this there are
New Sounds :No
New Textures :No
New StaticMeshes/Models :No
BOOOOOOOOO!!
but this person manages to take the original static meshes and textures and make them look great. This map is pure eyecandy and has that Elecfields look to it. Bots are "okay" since they stay around the middle area not going for the flak or shock rifle often. Now i gotta get this off my chest..

::To the author::

THIS SOULD BE CTF VERSION DAMN IT!!! From overhead the layout is clearly built for CTF. If you do make a CTF version how about putting the flags where the flak cannons are. If you don't do it your self I WILL

This map looks okay and plays the same way. It does tend to stutter on frame rate on my PC, but then I don't exactly have the latest and greatest hardware either. There wasn't close to enough action in this map for me, and all those brown and yellow tones were not appealing to the eye in the slightest after a few minutes.

yeh ive considered a CTF map version of it, and possibly a dom cos then thats all 4 styles of play on the same sorta backdrop, this i shall probly do like after xmas sumtime wen i aint so busy with stuff. ta for ur imput btw :D
(erm, dunno wat to rate this map as i cant really rate it myself so ill put it as a 7 which is wa it is already)

I myself like this map... To be honest opinions always vary and evidently mines different to the reviewers :)

I think I tend to agree with the review, though I don't feel it deserved so low a rating. The graphics are wonderful and there is a quite good atmosphere, but I didn' really like the flaw... Plus, consider 17 fps average for me :)

Personally I like it. When seeing the screenshots, I thought "weeee, a DM version of my most favouritest of maps for UT2003, Electric Fields"... when I actually started it up, it changed to "OH MY GOD!". Bloody awesome-looking.

Anyhoo, prettyness ain't everything, but for me the map is far superior to most of the DM maps supplied with the game (which tbh were disappointingly poor..). It's not hard to find a fight, and because of the great way the level is laid out, from any one position you can have any kind of scrap from a snipeout to sneaky shield/flak action.

My comp usually tends to slow down a lot despite its high spec, particularly on Chrome for some reason... but in this map, like ElecFields, I hardly had any FPS trouble. As for the lack of blocking volumes, I never had any problems there-- as a matter of fact at the time I had a friend over who'd never played UT2003 before, he tried this map and didn't fall to his doom once...

Much better than a few of the maps that have had a CliffyB 0wnage award, and as Mr Cliff loves the Z-axis so much, methinks this map is, like, totally worthy. Yea.

This map is sharp. Purely from an architectual point of view, it is a wonderful example of what a UT2003 level can look like. And the creator didn't use any new textures or static meshes. Breathtaking to look at. Unfortunatly the playability of the map suffers. Bots need to be repathed (they need more variation). I think this map will work splendidly as a DOM map, and the creator has said that he is planning to modify it to DOM and CTF.

it just looks like a big mess to me, although i can see the look the author is going for. also, some of the static meshes have sloppy placement.
I just dont like it :)

Basically a huge subtracted cube with a massive junkpile of static meshes in the middle. Terrible framerates, very poor flow, item placement and bot pathing. Incredibly annoying, loud, repetitive music that plays continuously even when music is turned off (probably set as ambient sound).

Looks awesome. The very good use of static meshes makes players think a bit about where to go. A platform-style map without a lot of clear, clean platforms can inhibit flow a bit, but makes movement more challenging and fun. Framerates are suprisingly high, considering you can get past 20-25k polys. The skybox is a little too simple, and should be redone with more moving clouds, etc.

This map is very good looking, and detailed, however, not really the best for fast and furious gaming.
Nice layout, and good frame rate.

Totally hit the nail on the head with this one. This is a sniper/shocker's spam delight! It's nice and HUGE, yet you can always find the opponents! It's nice and open, and all the mechanical/structural elements are just jaw dropping! The atmosphere is just totally awesome, and the layout is spot on! It's like a Junkyard War's contribution to a map!

I love this map, and being able to clamber and double-jump over every bit of architecture in sight is exhiliarating. The music, KR-SkyScraper, also fits this map far more effectively than it fits BR-Skyline.

The only snag is that, having played this before the DE bonus pack, the visuals of the similar BR-DE-ElecFields left me totally disappointed! DM-Vertigo is a visual and fragging treat.

[Edit] SithLegend, even if you don't enjoy the map, to give it a zero is absurd.

This map would have benefited from some lifts or maybe low gravity it has very little strategy and game play is very simple its very easy to learn even to it’s a big map, map would be better fitted for another game type as it is now, unless it was used for sniper arena visually looks good . But what it comes down to is.. Would I play a dm game on it? NO

Just average. Visuals aren't great, feels too much like random prefabs put anywhere. Only benifit is that it's original
Gameplay is below average which evens it out.

Noobs will nodoubt find it impressive simply because it's high poly :
