There is no Vortex Rikers here.
CTF-VRikers is a very big map. Rain falls from a dark sky as Players spawn in a barren bunker in their own base, from there they must make the long trek ahead. The extreme distances and z-axis here is staggering both in gameplay and framerates. Overly simple architecture boxes up the two-forts layout with bridge over deadly water, an old CTF cliche that has no yet been worn out by the new editor and the choice static mesh. Trees, Terrain and Rain make up the other 90 percent of CTF-VRikers.
On the subject of build, the new editor does require map makers to scale up the level a quarter more than UT. Here we find near me-little proportions and looming terrain that make navigation difficult and distances that soak the flow outa the game like a pair of cold wet jeans. The killer stream kills too fast (insta-kill), drowning would have been a more appropriate death... On a side note, the home spun lift to the upper ramparts did require some finese to create, but the extra build time could have been better spent sourcing the lighting or making a fitting skybox and the extraneous keyframes used to put a door on the supply bunker. Lightning Gun placement was adaquate. Bots, however, are hopeless and lack cunning to deal with the magnitude of the situation.
Recommended for players who love to snipe and run, and run, and run. The FPS should make this map unplayable online and a stalemate map for a network of real people. Dont play this map without a translocator, and please crank up the bot count if youre attempting this level at home.

| Cloudwing 01-12-2003 10:45 AM MST | Rating: 4 | | Well, this is the first time I've ever commented on a map here, so I hate to make it too negative. If the map is a first attempt, it's not too bad. The bots seem reasonably well pathed, and I didn't find any glitches. However, this map needs a lot of work. First off, there was pretty much no detail in the level. The bases were basically just huge boxes with no tops. I did like the nifty rotating elevator and the catwalk though.
Also, there was too much open space, and the map was just too big for such a simple layout. For future reference, try to make terrian rolling with no straight edges. For flow, maybe make some areas with a lot less space for short range combat, and try to spread out weapons and health a little more.
As an aside, what does this map have to do with the Vortex Rikers, which the name seems to alude to? Try to give maps names that have something to do with the content. Overall, this map could be good with a lot more work.
