This is a map featuring nine rather tight little cubes arranged 3x3x3. The Center Room is a healzone. Vertically the cubes are connected via jump pads, a lift in the center collumn, and funny "zero-grav" zones on the outsides. Horizontally they are linked via very tight boring corridors.
Minimalistic architecture all over, mostly unconsidered item littering, zero flow, two and a half different textures, insulting light (especially in the heal cube youll go blind...).
Nothing much here. Bot support is halfway bearable, but even with real people it would hardly be much fun. |

| Mxtrmntr 12-28-2002 02:17 AM MST | Rating: 1 | | erm, i fail to see the point in this map; it might be based on the film (which i never saw, unfortunately) but it still has to be judged on its own. this map neither has good graphics nor interesting gameplay nor good atmosphere and fails in every aspect :/
EDIT: @ Yrag: i never said it isn't a good film. i heard it is one, and so it's a pity i've never seen it:) the problem with the map is, it's....a few cubes (no really? ;) ). they are neither interesting to look at due to a total lack of detailed architecture or interesting texturing, nor can any real form of gameplay develop there... there's just way too much missing in this map:/ "kill, kill, kill" is a bit of a simple approach at gameplay; a really good, challenging DM map adds tactics, adds the possibility to predict your enemy. in an empty cube (or, a few more or less empty cubes) you'll hardly have more than the gameplay that's already provided by the game (i.e., you have a few weapons, now go and shoot). i didn't mean to bash your map stupidly or anything, i just think there's way too much missing in it.

Reply to Mxtrmntr: I apreciate your comments thank you, this is what the comments section is about. Although i dont agree, CubeX was not just thrown together i put quite a bit of thought into it. The map has most of the apsects you need in a map to enable good game play; indoor and outdoor action, battle in all three axis, fast fighting, little health (except centre cube), ambush points in some rooms and reasonably good flow. I guess you played with bots, obviously it would be better with humans (where you could anticipate moves and use hunter/hunted tactics). Well as my saying goes "you can please some people somtimes, but you cant please all the people all the time".
This was/is the second map i have built, so i wasn't expecting BZ's but i thought it was a good-ish effort!

Cube is a great experimental film, and this map is a great experimental map. I can perhaps see that it may have limited repeat appeal as it is so small, but it has a fascinating layout and is great for ambushes and testing your skill at moving quickly through small spaces

Too small, too cramped, not enough details, and where the traps? The simple design and bland lighting and poor item choices (InstaGib rifle) send it to the Recycle Bin.

A possibly interesting concept executed horribly. turn down your gamma if you bother with this one fellas. that heal room will cause blindness if your eyes are exposed to it for more than a few seconds at a time.

Making that "health room" totaly white.... BIG mistake !. its FUGLY dude !. only positive comment i have on this map is the fact you can go out side. ( which would proberably be better ), map = 2 cramped, not enough room to get down dirty with dodging skills... risk of splash damage is too great, which makes it easier to get killed... not a good thing to happen. Dont try to build maps on things you've seen in films or in real life. Just open your Editor, Dig Deep into your darkest, strangest thought and fantasties, and convert that into a map !, then you'll get a map worth more than a 4 !

But if whe don't like it doent's mean that the map is bad just because whe don't like it. It is a mater of taste that's all. Take CTF- Horus, I think it is a damn good map. But some persones that I know realy don't like it. So since all our taste are not the same, whe have to respect each other opignion. If I think that a map is shit, it doe's not mean that the map is shit. Just because of me not liking it, remenber it is only are small opignion that's all. So please be more construtif, in some comment's. Because me = not liking a map, doe's not mean that the map is bad. Only a mater of taste here.
