I saw the pic and it reminded me of LOTR so I d/led it. Boy was I shocked, this is the biggest map i have yet set foot in for UT2003. And it isn't in that medevial adventure of epic proportions type way, it's in a boring, unenjoyable, and quiet nothingness sort of way.

Without being too harsh, the author seems to know enough to make a large scaled terrain and a castle, but the castles themselves are basically empty and are nothing more than a set up boxes with stuff thrown in. Custom meshes from citadel are set infront of each base in this uber long facing worlds theme, they dont fit of course, and in the middle of this terrain is a large structure that....beams you directly into your enemies flag room.(?)

The terrain itself is large, has water and trees and rocks, but is awefully generic and bland. The items are miles apart(really). In the base they are bunched up, one room has like 10 healths and another has all the guns, ammo and other guns are far away and take a loooong time to get to. Alot of walking is required, too much, it's tedious and you never fight anything. I spawned, walked around the outside of my castle to the entrance, found a big box room with pillars with no items, strolled into a room lined with healths, saw a very faint teleporter signal, warped to the bottom of a spiral staircase (thats being nice, its a cylinder with a primitive twisty stepcase) walked up the staircase to a roof with the sniper gun and a ammo pack. And I sat there. Waiting. And waiting. It took me a long time to get there, and I was waiting still. Nothing. Still nothing. Nobody on the horizon from the other base (loads were 8 or so for both sides). Suddently it said my flag was being taken, and I thought 'thank you', but then it was instantly returned. It seems a lone bot from the other base strolled into my flag room via the central teleporter from the center of the map and got killed instantly by my defenders. Boo wakity crap.

And so it went. Finally I ran out, and I mean ran, to the tele in the center of the terrain. It took me awhile, I was bored the whole time, everything was quiet. I reached the structure and entered the flag room of my enemy, they shot at me and I was happy for the first bit of action in 5 minutes. I took some hits and ran back to my base, and after awhile I just walked. Finally I'm back and I score, and went back to repeat the process.

Folks, this isn't fun. Take some notes, walking around in a uninteresting landscape that doesn't even have a sky because it's all distance fog....that really sucks. And with a player load of nearly 10 bots per team, I expect some action. Waiting whole minutes for a decent kill to come along is just boring.

The Prophet's Verdict: Not my cup of tea, I like to actually fight in my games. But if you're a camper or a hippie who doesn't like violence, you'll feel right at home here. You'll basically hang around asking bots about their relationships while waiting for a fight to show up. Who knows, extended play time may give you enough time to make Brock the bot reveal his hidden fantasys about Malcom.

good lord....the picture looks good....i believe this map may have some meaning if it was redesigned....first of all....make the thing like 5 times smaller....add some more static meshes on the interior of the castle and add some floors to the castle for lots of z axis fighting....

I agree with the reviewer in some points, but a 1.0 rating is a little bit too low in my opinion.
The author at least tried to make something completely new for UT 2003 and for a first attempt, it's not bad.
Maybe the map name should include a "beta" until the author added some more stuff to the castle interiors.
I really like the idea of the map, that's why it gets 4.0 points.
