Dragons nest here?

Whatever the readme says, this map does look sweet. Plus, I have a soft spot in my scaly underbelly for castle type maps. Using primarily meshes from DOM-Ruination and the terrain bowl similar to DM-Antalus, players are immersed in a crumbling Gothic arena. The red dust and ominous orange sky does leave combat on the dark side and the tight ruins choke movement so adhere to the recommended count of 2-4 players.

Mesh usage is well done, scaling and location wise. Beware, With only a few blocking volumes you might find yourself stuck if not travelling obvious paths. Item placement is on the over abundant side and not a lot of risk incentive or audio clues are used making the idea of Riegncaster being the premier 1-on-1 map only true until something new comes along. In the meantime, not an unworthy download even if just to look at in Ued3.

Hmmm, I`ve got a brown version too :O Cool graphics and flow, but in my opinion it could have been bit larger. Very good for 1on1...

I don't now. It plays decent but it looks to me like some1 played with the terrain editor in UED3 and put in some prefabs and foila...Looks ok, but thats just because UT2003 is so new and with little effort any map looks like a pro map. Just because CliffyB gave it an ownage doesnt mean it is perfect! And yeah, the colors are wrong in the pics..

The map is a little too thrown together, so to speak. It feels like there's no rhyme of reason to certain areas of the map other than to have decayed walls and hills... however, gameplay is fast and furious. Except for a few places where I got stuck, the map is ok, but not one of my favorites. Good work overall on the construction however.

4 for looks 0 for gameplay... about average for UT2k3 at the moment...

DialAJunk said : the whole thing is one big snag. THIS MAP IS NOT FOR PLAYING, IT'S FOR LOOKING AT.

Yep that's pretty much the case with this pile of poo.

This and Dm-shuddercreek are some of my favorite UT2k3 maps. Can't wait to see what else this author can come up with.

Yep, DM-shuddercreek is much better than reigncaster, RC is a good idea but in reality its too cramped and too easy to get stuck on objects, I believe the author has learned from this though which is why shuddercreek is so damn huge :)

ReignCaster - being the first real map release for UT2k3 (FAME!) - looks quite okay, and has a bit of gameplay. /me thinks Hayden should have shown a bit more originality, um, I mean, given it a bit more definition. The 'edge' of the map could also have used some more work. This map looks rushed.

Cool map for 1 on 1 but dont see why it earned an 0wnage. I personally think it's too cramped and gets boring quick.

It is quite easy to get stuck in places. Nothing exciting or excellent was done, it just happens to all fall together in a relatively solid theme. The bots play extremely well here, but overall...not worth ownage.

imo a very average map. Neither visuals or gameplay are near ownage imo. Doesn't look all that great, and the gameplay is boring. That's excluding the fact that the map runs like absoloute shite on my pc. 5/10

Gameplay has nothing, and the mapper stole other peoples brushes. Can we respect that? No.

Above average, lots of eyecandy. Otherwise, I really don't like the flow of this level, and I think item placement can use a lot of tweaks.

Some nice touches in this level and put together with a good eye for atmosphere but ultimately disappointing - it's just a height map and some predictable mesh work - it's the lighting that puts it slightly above average - Ownage it most certainly isn't

I don't think a map has ever p1ssed me off like this one; the whole thing is one big snag. THIS MAP IS NOT FOR PLAYING, IT'S FOR LOOKING AT.
It's funny to see servers out there using it as an 8 player TDM map... oh the pain.

this map is a good map for small player loads and despite some snaggies and some overkill on item placement, it's fun.
edit: and what the hell is the problem with using somebody elses static meshes? It's like a texture set except in 3d. That's no reason to hate a map.

Although I'm not a fan of most small maps, this one works for me. It flows rather well with the occassional hang up. The bottom line is the map is fun and deserves a download.

Blah! ... Mr. Bee has this map pegged.
""it's just a height map and some predictable mesh work""
- and on top of that, the item placement is fairly poor as well.

It seems like all the user made maps are outdoors now.
I suspect this is just a fad for outside environments
have been a weakness of the Unreal engine before now.

You know, so far I haven't seen any user made maps
which make me gasp in awe. None that really utilize
the new game engine's capabilities. Well, at least
this one isn't one of those st00pid "bedroom" maps.
Come on ... let's see some mean industrial maps with
a lot of movement. ... ;-)>

this map is getting more flak for being ownage than dm-scimitar did for being a 10
anyways this map feels more like it was assembled rather than built

I like the castle architecture in this map as well as the fog effects. It's a small map so fog doesn't really hurt visibility. It can be a little crowded though with all of the close quarters combat. There's also a bit too much items scattered around. Bots fight really well; it took me a while to finally beat them.

Way, way, way way too cramped...considering it was the first mainstream usermap for 2k3 it's got great visuals, but the crampedness and weird item placement imo really really hurts the map...ShudderCreek was a much better follow up

the map is all looks... no game-play what so ever...

And if you look closer the looks start to lack also...

Ownage... nah.

I got a theory about Ownage atm. Ownage is reserved for maps that are higher than most maps we see right now in the user mapping community. Visuals being number one in the list right now in the Ownage maps... Cliffyb has no choice but put this and other maps that in all reality are not great into Ownage to fill his site… I mean he has a site with a new design and everything… well he needs to use it right?

The map designer of this map Is a good map designer but this map and the shudder creek are just quick toss ups.

Cliffyb seems to be starting to get his thing together and pick better maps now for the Ownage privledge… I hope.

IMHO this got ownage because it was basically the first decent map to be released, soon after the game came out. CliffyB's standards have gone up since then. :)

We've had this map in rotation for over a month now, it's that good! The "ring" of the map is where all the action is, and flak cannons own joo! This is a total paranoia map: There is no place to hide! Some players like to run up the stairs in the middle and lob down death and hell to the fraggers below. Love the terrain changes and the small "hills". Makes for some great happy-face pill lobs!
