Big Egyptian style map First off, this map is a maze of tunnels seperating the four control points. There is alot of unused real estate and dark corners to hide in/ get lost in. Getting familiar with the layout will be the biggest obsticle, holding your lunch down after getting a look at the sky-box will be the next.
The control Points:
Mosaic Room The floor gives the cp it's name, and one of the more logical places to put a CP in the map.
Hall of Carnage A defense point on the stair landing makes this CP better approached from above.
Great Hall A U-Damage on the accent rail can help strip this CP from reluctant BOTs.
Cistern A BOT in the shadows typically awaits trespassers, but if you swam in from the court yard, chances are you have a Redeemer to brighten up the place. The fun factor trips over the shear distances players have to stuble about in to find Control Points. No hard playability issues exsist, though the nasty lighting and dizzy architecture does't help any. Items seem to be added in at key locations, with a good scattering of weapons for larger player loads nearing 16. I found 12 players to be neccassary just to maintain an acceptable gib level. Texturing strengthens the theme with egyptian motifs and hyroglyphs. The architecture is non-descript, didn't feel egyptian, but then again I only spent a couple of years in the Middle East and Hollywood hasn't released any good mummy movies for atleast a year. Sound effects and music cap off the level, a custom umx with an arabic banter would have been the way to go because no UT music file really fits, though it is nice the author tried to match one up for us. Last degrading comments I have are on the waterfall and Nali statue. A monk statue would be closer to the theme and the waterfall is blocky and the "falling" water appears to ooze down the wall. Stretching the texture will give it a "speeded up" appearance, or select one that is a "waterfall".
So what did I like? not a whole lot. Sesmar has nothing to worry about even if there isn't alot of technically "bad" things wrong with this map, it simply plays slow even with good frames per second and the visuals wouldn't make for a bad "B" movie. My opinion is if the author had gone "techno" (ala StarGate) this would have opened the door for additional light sources and interesting trim textures for this tomb of domination. Believability and Entertainment being the key components to any "good" map.

| Kirgon A.K.A Supa_Sniper_Master 06-19-2004 09:40 AM MDT | Rating: 7 | | was ok.not totally because it's a bit anoying.
| Manticore 06-19-2004 08:39 PM MDT | Rating: 6 | | Not to be confused with Tonberry's DM-Thoth. This map has a good layout and visual style. The gameplay suffers owing to unlit areas and lighting generally.
