DOM-DMUT-Elemental by Bot_40
AWE: 3.0 BUILD: 3.0 CAST: 2.5
ADRENALINE RATING: 5/5 RECOMMENDED NUMBER OF PLAYERS: 4
GNOME: If you have told me yesterday or the day before or a year ago that we'd get the chance to review another Bot 40 map before Arcadia beat us to it...I wouldn't have believe you. SAPPER: I guess there's something to be said for jumping on the good ones.
THE STORY GNOME: In the year 2401, humanity learned how to control the elements of Wind, Fire and Thunder. In 2411, Liandri corps purchased the technology and used it to create one of the most watched tournament events in history. The place: a small asteroid orbiting earth. The contestants, you. And everyone else who has a supreme lust for fame and power.
THE AWE FACTOR SAPPER: Let me guess...I'm taking the day off? GNOME: From the same author of magnificent works such as DM-Deck_40 (http://nalicity.beyondunreal.com/map_hub.php?mid=6805) for UT99 and CTF-Aedes (http://nalicity.beyondunreal.com/map_hub.php?mid=7321) for UT2k4 proudly presents yet another masterpeice in his DMUT collection. What at first might seem to by little more than a very small asteroid becomes a violent intersection of elemental conflict. Setting aside a perfect blend of texturing, lighting and theme, the visual effects will blow you away.
THE BUILD GNOME: Imagine a flash of lightning and a clap of thunder capable of sending a deadly shock through your opponents when you activate the Point of Thunder. SAPPER: Fear the storm that threatens to sweep you off your feet and hurl you into the furthest reached of space while trying to activate the Point of Wind. GNOME: Picture, if you will, being incinerated in a vat of molten lava as you attempt to activate the Point of Fire. SAPPER: It's so exciting! GNOME: In terms of the Build, this map is absolutely flawless. You will not find any cut errors of HOMs of any kind. You will not encounter problems using the lifts unless you happen to be in weapons range. You will not have any trouble getting into the battleground as a result of excellent sound incorporation. SAPPER: You will go directly to hell. You will not pass Go. You will not collect 200 credits.
THE CAST SAPPER: There is only one thing about this map that prevents it from getting a perfect score. And that is because the bots will sometimes stop activating domination points and just sit around waiting for their points to add up. GNOME: They also won't go after the armor on top of the mine entrance. SAPPER: Other than that.. GNOME: Flow was wonderful! Item selection and placement worked in favor of gameplay. A truly beautiful creation!
OVERALL SAPPER: My interest in Domination maps has suddenly been rekindled. I truly hope that we see more works of art like this. GNOME: Take this as a lesson for all would be mappers out there. You're map does not have to be big or elaborate or unique to be awesome. It just needs a little effort and creativity. |

| volkov 12-04-2004 05:21 PM MST | Rating: 9.5 | | Kinda Reminds me of CTF-Face, but its cool nonetheless! in the words of Spiderbait "f**kn' Awesome"!
| dinosaure 06-22-2005 04:36 AM MDT | Rating: 10 | | Excellent map ! Very easy to understand where the points are.
| Gnome and Sapper 02-21-2006 09:59 PM MST | Rating: 10 | | Agreed. Truly the most excellent Domination map I've ever played.
| cooloola 03-03-2006 06:05 AM MST | Rating: 5 | | What the hell have you been smoking?????? A 10 or 8 for this!!!! ::Edit:: I reread through the review and allow me to correct myself because now I am sure ur on drugs I mean where's the perfect belnd of lighting? Ther's no archi at all so how did this map get 3/3 on AWE? And what visual effects?? Plas the elevators are just plain wood they have no trim and nothing to move along so they look like they're floating.
| Spudsy 02-25-2006 10:12 PM MST | Rating: 9.5 | | Correction, what the hell have you been smoking cooloola? This map is a very nice map. The theme works extremely well with the map and helps make it very enjoyable. THe layout is pretty nice, and the bots work pretty well on it. This map makes me want to start a petition to get DOM in UT2k7, it's just that good. Great work.
| Rakiayn 02-26-2006 05:53 AM MST | Rating: 7.5 | | pretty cool map
| Derdak2rot 02-26-2006 10:48 AM MST | Rating: 7 | | remember this is a old map , im sure there are better DOM out there . i played this one a few years ago , and i remember quite well that this map is a keeper for all DOM lovers . but imo its not a great work of archi and lightning , but it have a good gameplay and flow , plus scripted event idea that keep this map interesting .
| Uncle_Bob 02-26-2006 12:17 PM MST | Rating: 7.5 | | I like the simplicity of it. The layout really works and i find the theme quite calming. I apreciate its an older map so the oldschool style visuals and lighting don't bother me. Excelent piece of DOM, which there aren't enough of around.
| xterminator 02-27-2006 02:33 AM MST | Rating: 8.5 | | heh good map. i like the part when u go to the wind control point the wind slowly blows u away from the platform
| Speaker 03-03-2006 04:35 AM MST | Rating: 3 | | This is amazing. Sorry, not the map, but the high scores people gave to this below-average creation. Except for a couple of fairly useless gimmicks, this map does not contain any exceptional value. Very simplistic architecture, very simple and linear gameplay, the sky turns too fast and makes you dizzy all the time, the map is too dark at some places, etc. At best a score of 3.
Milb: I understand your point. However, being old is no excuse for being primitive. The author could have created a map with a nice layout, not too complicated architecture (to save on polys) with a good choice of textures. This was all possible even at that time (same game, same editor). Another choice is to upgrade that old map before uploading.
| milb 03-02-2006 12:22 PM MST | Rating: 7.5 | | Dudes, this map is older then old. You can't compare it with maps wich are released 2004 or 2005. So I don't think this map should get a 3 or a 5. May it's a bore nowadays but back in 2001 it surely was a good map...
| Jenna 03-18-2006 04:24 PM MST | Rating: 8 | | In general, I don't like Domination maps, but I have to admit that I actually enjoyed playing this map.
The map looks good and runs well on my ancient laptop. That's all I could ever ask for.
I just found it rather annoying when the opposing team would spawn at whatever control point that my team-mate or I was not at with 4 players.
Still, it's a pretty fun map if you don't mind continually revisiting areas that you just came from.
