Here's one with a military theme. DM-WeaponsOfWar is a small map good for 2 or 4 fighters, created out of nothingness by SnowDog. The author did a good job sticking to a theme, with warheads in storage, a sniper outpost, and a cool tank that looks fairly realistic.
A Quonset hut, a couple of rectangular buildings, and some underground storage areas provide the proving grounds for you and some resistance. There are z-axis opportunities, a couple of underground spots to catch your breath, and the out-n'-out "meet me at sundown for a showdown" outdoor spot in the center of things. The poly counts reached about 140 in a couple of places, but you're not looking across a large area, and you're not fighting against a bunch of bots at once, so the slower machines shouldn't have much trouble with lag.
The textures look military-like. Wooden crates galore, lots of concrete and steel, and grass outside to stomp your cigarettes out in. I noticed a misaligned caution stripe on the tank, but the lighting is so dark around it, you'll never notice it.
The bots marched all over, but avoided the two lifts even though they were set up correctly. I was about to give up on them grabbing the jumpboots and making the leap for the Udamage and armor that are placed out of the way on the roofs, but then one of them surprised me and grabbed these helpers. I did see a bot get stuck trying to run up a rooftop once with it's feet going like crazy, but all the other times the bots negotiated this spot without any problems. The item placement helped make for a good game: Not too much health, and the aforementioned goodies placed out of reach.
The lighting was set up well. You're playing a nighttime map with a skybox, and the bright, outdoor lighting combined with the soft indoor stuff, gave you plenty of dynamic lighting and shadow effects. The author provided music, lift sounds, and ambient sounds to add to the experience. End of review.
For the author: Not too bad! I kept seeing the bots start to climb on a lift before they changed their mind and turned to go the other way. I see that you placed the lift centers very close to the lifts. I'm wondering if you raise them up a bit if that will make the bots more willing to use them. That one underground spot with the round grate letting light shine through onto that little platform needs adjustment in my opinion. The lighting outdoors in not bright enough to cause that much light indoors. I would reduce the light by that platform a little bit.
