If you don't already have this map, you're really missing out. DM-UT-Tourney-][ is a small (2-6), very fast map that would make a nice addition to any hard drive.
This map has "industrial look" written all over it. The author, Olav Gjerde a.k.a. Mr. Fawn, did an excellent job of creating a map with good visuals, great flow, and smooth frame rates. There are lots of z-axis opportunities, from slightly elevated stairs and walkways, to higher spots, including beams. Everywhere you look you see something interesting in your field of view, but the polys remain very low throughout the entire map. You can ride elevators, hit a flight of stairs, or ramp your way around the place. You'll see water, beams, boxes, pipes, ducts, concrete and steelÖjust what you'd expect in such a facility.
The bots were wicked smart because of the author's extensive knowledge of proper pathing. The map has the damage amp, shieldbelt, invisibility, and health keg, and the bots know how to acquire all these. I noticed a bot grab the belt, snatch a launcher and boots, leap for the amp, then proceed to rip its fellow fraggers a new one. It lived so long that it eventually came face to face with another belted bot. Now, this seems like it might be a little too much, but this was a rare occurrence and a testament to how well a warrior could do if they knew the ropes.
The lighting was very well done, as well. There are lots of colors on the map, many are subtle, and some are bold where they need to be. I was very impressed with the techniques used. The author included some tunes for us, appropriate ambient sounds, and all the movers clank around like they should.
~End of Review~
For the author: I noticed one small problem with a bot. It was trying to get the health boxes you have on top of the wooden crate by the jumpboots. It made a couple of attempts for the health, then gave up because the boots drained, I believe. There is not really enough head clearance for them with the boots. They still might get the health up there, but the one time I was looking, I noticed they failed to do so. Very nice job!!
