I didn't really knew what to expect from this map and when I first opend it inside the game, I was like "wow". There really was an idea behind the map, so I figured out it couldn't be bad. Mistake from me. When I spawned I had to take the stairs to get down. Their was light, but seemed to come from nowhere. Took a screenshot of it. It's good for your electricity bill, but makes no sense. Textures are very basic. Sometimes you even get the impression they are just placed to fill up the walls. The stairways are grey texturised, walls, floors and ceilings.
Brushes are very basic. Most buildings are just cubes with no special stuff on it, besides a some trimmed borders here and there. I like the subway and the broke street in the middle. It brakes it up and is a nice welcome in a boring map. Flags are placed on top of two buildings. I even got the CTF-Face impression one moment.
There aren't much fancy things in it, and neither for the weapon placement. Very basic and sometimes predictable. I don't know what the author did for both pathing, but thats a joke. I've never seen so many pathnodes in one level. Some advice I learned in my first tutorial: "The few pathnodes, the better!". Maybe this is something for the author. I even noticed them at places where they totally make no sense. |

| Shinobi Ryu 10-25-2003 11:46 PM MDT | Rating: 9 | | Once in a while, there comes a map that blows us all away. CTF-City is that map. The map is incredible. The whole team spawns in one room full of weapons at the beginning and throughout the match. First thing that caught my eye: Enough spawnpoints for many MANY people. That's more than I can say for many CTF maps (CTF-Intro, anyone?). The next thing I noticed: The weapon placement in the room is very nice. Sniper rifles lined up on a rack next to the door, a table to the left with miniguns and enforcers (for all you akimbo-blasting needs), and ammo and medkits on the table to the right. So here I am, walking out of the room with a team of 7 bots. Two bots end up supporting me, a couple get into sniping positions, and the rest charge. Beautiful bot AI. Superb. The only bad part: They don't take any alternate routes. No underground passage or subway car. No going through the condemmed building. The take a straight-forward path through the main street to the enemy base. But that's the only flaw in this map. The level looks REALLY nice. The texture use is good, and I like the team logos on the buildings. The level layout is good. Two corporate-like buildings on each side of the street, a subway, smaller buildings on both sides, but only one is accessable (cover, in case there is a sniper on the opposing team who is taking off a tad too many heads). The level quickly became my favorite CTF map of all time, and I can say the same for my LAN buddies in the underground UT gaming community at my school. The score may say nine, but I say 9.8. Work with the bots just a little itty bitty teenie weeny bit, and it's a 10.
| Manticore 11-04-2003 06:51 PM MST | Rating: 7 | | Decent maps can be ruined for offline play by bots that haven't been properly worked. Luckily this isn't the case here.
Simple map with some good variations on reaching the flag and leaving again. Some potential for telefragging the opposition.
Visually not very startling but plays real well. Worth a look. Could use a screenshot on page though...
Added comment: I agree with the below comments. Also, regarding the buildings on both sides and access to the flag, a very strategically placed set of jumpboots might make for some fun options. Yeh, and how about using translocation....?
My main motivation for the rating was because of the bots. Personally I can't stand it when the bots aren't properly worked. I do enjoy fighting my way out against the odds though....
| DiFool 10-27-2003 11:21 AM MST | Rating: 3 | | Glad you like the map guys, but I cannot agree. This one suffers from One True Way syndrome, which makes for boring gameplay. The alternate routes mentioned in the other reviews are a waste because you still have to breach the often heavily guarded main entrance (hence their only use is avoiding the mayhem on Main St.). To get a cap, it's a simple recipe: grab the belt and keg on the rooftops with the xloc, wait until the enemy base entrance is unguarded, xloc down, go thru the teleporter, get to the roof asap, grab flag, look for friend below, jump off and crater at his feet, he gets cap, rinse, repeat. Trying to fight your way back down is suicide most of the time.
| Shao 10-27-2003 10:07 PM MST | Rating: 2 | | not good , is look's like ctf-face , oh yeah and is also lag.
| Taydawg 11-15-2003 09:24 AM MST | Rating: 9 | | Wow an excellent map! I love it!
DiFool the one way syndrome can be corrected with additional bot pathing. I may just do that and send it to the origional creator of the map. as far as it being like face, its SIMILAR. its not the same because face has no housings on the outside, and no subway. Plus FACE's towers arent so damn high :) i absoulutly love this ctf map it is very fun and the mapper did a great job. I still like FACE more though because it is played more online... but as far as SP practice ctf this is the map.
| bubbathefool 10-29-2003 06:10 PM MST | Rating: 8 | | Played this map last night at Zenpunk Palace and remembered how much fun it was. Sneeking to the enemy base along the rooftop construction, then translocating thru their window still works. A good map then and a good map now. A solid 8 (I'd give it an 8.5 if there was one).
| phalanx 11-03-2003 05:28 AM MST | Rating: 7 | | i like this level plenty of routes to leave the base good fun with strangelove
| ace simpson 11-04-2003 09:30 PM MST | Rating: 8 | | Everything about this map is awesome. Love city maps, this one even has an under ground bonus subway route if you jump for the armor & miss. Frame rate is great with a fast paced challenge for CTF lovers.
| zenpunk 11-11-2003 08:39 PM MST | Rating: 8 | | CTF-City only given a 3? Wow, I can't wait for more from this new reviewer.
| Skull03 11-15-2003 09:10 AM MST | Rating: 10 | | I think I'm In love! Capture The Flag has never looked so good. Well built, with hidden extras. I like the fact points in the map are soo tall. Sniper Heaven Gifts around every corner, with a great subway. A 3 for this map is like turd on a shoe. This map is a chunk of City floating in sapce, and I love it. Its brilliant. Worth a download by far. and for just over 1mb, Im head over heels! Congrats Mapper! Hall Of Fame
| Nahand 11-15-2003 10:20 AM MST | Rating: 2 | | I really can´t see what these people all *think* they know about a CTF map. (humm... what a prepotent sentence from me o_0 ;)
It is NOT a good CTF map, mainly because, as someone pointed out, ONLY 1 way is valid, in the sense of most used (side routes or underground is not that good a route); AND MOST INPORTANT, you can get a good (actually, even a bad) defense at the buildings entrance, making the attackers unable to proceed. That, or they get telefragged when using the Teleporters. And all those things if they get past the sniper spam. Of course, it is possible to capture the flag, but getting away with it is : a) you get by the same teleporters you used to get up, meaning ost likely=telefragged; b) just jump to the street way below, make a crater, and hope a teammate is near impact point to carry the flag to its base.
People trying to get flag back have VERY limited options - pretty much the same way that the attackers used to get up to flag in first place.
Overall, a bad CTF map, with 1 or 2 out of average detail (but that works too in any other gametype). It don´t make this map a better CTF map, by ANY chance.
If you're a serious CTF player, do not waste your time with this. For every other, enjoy the mindless spam gameplay...
[NOTE: i am NOT depreciating all comments on this map, only those high-rated ones, for the obvious reasons.]
| Reciprocity 11-15-2003 10:51 AM MST | Rating: 3 | | An urban-based CTF map, cool! It sucks? Not cool. I had some high hopes for this one but once you get into the nitty and gritty, it fails horribly. As mentioned before, the pathnodes are everywhere but the bots seem to favor the same route: Out of the buildings, over San Andreas fault in the middle of the freakin' street, and up to the flag and back down over that same plan agian if one of the bots' doesn't gun them down. I'd like to have gone into the buildings lining the street or have actually USED the freakin' train. It has alot of potential but as it is, it's a stupid waste of time.
| Vexate 11-16-2003 04:35 PM MST | Rating: 1 | | this map sucks. the lighting is horrible, and there are no light sources. where there are light sources, there is no light. bots take the same predictable route every time. the skybox is also terrible, the auther didnt mask any of the planets or anything so they have giant black edges. what is a part of a city doing in space anyway? bad theme. there are a million spots for a sniper to sit, but no place to take cover if u are on the street. the map gets a 1 for SOME decent textures in SOME areas. few maps are worse then this one. comcast is one of them.
| avatar 11-17-2003 09:17 PM MST | Rating: 2 | | This map is definitely not up to par with even the most average maps out there when you consider the whole package. However, there's a certain level of creativity I see here that isn't present in even the most average of maps. With time and learning I'm sure the mapper can crank out some really good stuff in the future.
| superkag 11-18-2003 09:39 PM MST | Rating: 3 | | Eh...I like my three maps better.
| [insert funny name here] :P 06-21-2004 03:17 AM MDT | Rating: 9 | | Nice map, could of had more stuff, love the subway effect, possibly needs to be longer, big maps, big smiles. Nice map, its a keeper.
| [ZeEK] 06-21-2004 10:31 AM MDT | Rating: 8 | | even tough the problem of the bots sticking to only one path makes gameplay less fun, it's one hell of a map, either played in classic or igib. i'll be wating for a 2nd edition or a new version, the possibilities are endless, just wished there were more urbanlike maps outhere!!
| WolfZword 09-10-2005 05:05 PM MDT | Rating: 7.5 | | It's an okay map, good idea, but it has its problems. For example, when I went into one of the subway cars and ducked, then got back up while it was still moving, I got crushed. I'm not sure if it happens all the time, though, cause I was using the Ducker mutator.
| West 09-11-2005 07:39 AM MDT | | I think I'll take it out for a spin, I like city-themed maps.
...but that review is really quite terrible.
| Palmaero 09-11-2005 02:47 PM MDT | Rating: 9 | | This map is really cool... I love it
