Unreality][ was one of the my favorite UT maps when it first came out. The gameplay was cool and the map was fun. Compared to UT maps today, the gameplay still remains fun and furious. The maps age is obvious, but the flaws are minor.

Visually, this map is average by todays standards. 2 years ago and this map was a visual keeper. Today, it makes par. The theme is....well its a basic early UT deathmatch with UTech bricks and various UT posters and signs all around the buildings. Crates litter the interior as well. The map has no sense of identity, but in this case it really doesnt matter since this map was built at a time when nobody cared about logical themes. Architecture and lighting are pretty basic all the way through, but no more than DM-Turbine, Phobos, Tempest, or Curse. Everything in here really remains on average ground in the looks department.

Gameplay remains fun, even after so much time. This is a larger deathmatch than most people are used to now. Now the big craze is the smaller, more frenzified 1 on 1 small maps. This map was made when the larger DMs were still the main focus, before the 1 on 1 themes began to gain popularity. There lots of ways to die here. The map has a good sense of Z-Axis, multiple floors exist within a web of up/down ramps and balconys. Death can come from any direction at anytime. Bots play the map ok, tho they could do better. I dont see why anyone would waste this map on bot play when its just bred for online games. The map runs smooth, perfect for a large netgame. A few places do hurt flow, theres one inventory alcove which is a little bit of a dead end and one spot is blocked by crates, it looks like it should have been covered up as not to confuse people. A cool feature is the icons under the weapons; along the floor are rotating colored icons that make spotting items easier.

The Prophets Verdict: Anyone who has owned UT since the begining has to have played this map at least once. Still above average by todays standards.

Not as fun as DM-Seraphim, but still a classic UT map. Faceless is the master - bow down!

What are todays standards? UT2003?. Can´t compare to that. great map overall. If this is a 6.5, then show me a UT map with an 8 or 9! The map has athmo - I like the sandy stones

If youre going to sequel a "classic" map (i havent played UT quite as long as some people, and I found the map unremarkable, but not bad), try and do it better than the original. This map isn't.

Man, this is the UT version. It was quite brilliant when it came out, and it still matches up to any large UT map in terms of play.

I stil reckon 6.5 is a bit harsh...

Did you re-review this proph? You really shouldn't have, because this still deserves a 9 or 10 nowadays. THe theme, the gameplay - everything was great, BACK THEN. Why review it based on todays standards?

6.5 still stands.

I like this map, I really do, 6.5 is not a bad score for such an old map. What would really be unfair, is for me to review it higher and then review a UT1 map made yesterday with equal looks and gameplay, and rate it less than this.

Oh and I respect Faceless, he ownz my balls....but this is NOT his best work:)

Classic map, imo.
It plays well, especially in team games.
The lay-out was a bit confusing at first, but it didn't take that long to learn.

The bots roam the level, do their thing. Do it quite well.

Get this map. It's worth it.

Boring, soulless layout and architecture. And yet i give this map a 7.5. 'WHY?' Game flow, baby. It's all about the flow of the game in UT99.

Personally i wouldn't change anything about this map, despite my complaints that it doesn't have a personality. There are some maps that don't wish to inspire you, but just make it easy to gut your fraggin' enemy. This is one of those. Plenty of places to run around, withdraw if you're taking on too much damage, and always a weapon or healthpack right around the corner.

Make this a part of your Medium Maps rotation, and keep the bots below 12 or 14, unless you're looking for incessant carnage.

Boy has this map been around. Large in scale and until you've learned your way around it's going to be confusing. Solid map making for sure.
