I feel jaded . Throughout the week , I've been wading through the sea of mediocre maps and even below average ones hoping to find a gem that will make this reviewing job worthwhile . As I looked at the screenshot supplied in the zip file ( the one I've included here ) , I thought my search has ended . Boy , was I wrong . So wrong .
This one already gave me a bad impression when I loaded it up : first , it didn't have any bot pathing set and two , it was SO dark ! I know it's an underwater , deep-sea setting but hey , even the Discovery Channel has nice aquamarine blue seas . The murky depths of the ocean wouldn't even be so frustrating if I was supplied with a flashlight of sorts . But before all that , let me tell you what the map is like ...
The map , which is totally submerged in water of course , comprises of a submarine and a cross-shaped compartment in the middle . There are other such compartments , 4 actually in each corner as well as a few other pods - more floating subs i assume . These structures are all dry inside thanks to the air bubble effect so there's no need for any breathing equipment , which by the way are scattered all over the map so no problem there too . There are also other tidbits on the floor of the 'ocean' , one of them being bubbles the size of Xan's head . These bubbles release greenish gas when shot at but they're not harmful in any way . Besides that , the 'ocean' floor also has wreckage of cars and trucks but unfortunately , there're not even solid in nature offering no protection . They might as well have a sign "For show only".
This map is a total flop in terms of gameplay . During the couple of LAN games I had with my friends , I found the watery surroundings too much of a hassle to manoeuvre in - movements become sluggish and it's neigh impossible to dodge any incoming shots . End result : everything happens in slow-motion ! This situation also makes you a sitting duck for locked-on rockets . However , the bubbles underneath also trigger off the targeting mechanism in the rocket launcher . Whether it's on purpose or not , it makes targeting an opponent very difficult as you could well be aiming at one of 'em bubbles . A blessing or a curse ? You decide . All I can say is , this map needs a lot or work in it . Final word : Not recommended .
