A large map that reeks of atmosphere and still plays well.
Mmm, yummy. A conversion from his original CLASH map pack for Unreal 1 (filled with other well done goodies), MarcEG created a little village and underground areas that aspiring mapmakers should take a notice of. There's also an ocean which kind of is just there and some mountains. That's the description of the level in a nutshell. But in actuality...
This map is fun. Fun fun fun. The doors open (with a wonderful sound too, BTW) and your heart skips a beat as you dart away from the door, pop in to scan the room and maybe get hit by firepower. Or someone could be running up the ramps from the underworld. Or painting you from above via the windows. Or tracking you from up on a rooftop. I could go on and on, but suffice it to say this map rocks in the "Fun" department. The bots trample all over this map, and the flow and the item placement is very logical.
I've been raving about the theme and the architecture, but I must get on a temporary soapbox about the transporter in this level. It's so radically departed from the theme that it serves as a "WTF?" moment. When you've got this beautiful level oozing atmosphere and realism, why would you place a transporter in there?! Still, this level is "all that and a bag of potato chips." MarcEG did very good work on the sound here, as there's tons of ambient noises that add to the beauty and immersiveness of the level. In addition, the lighting casts a barbaric, Middle Ages feel over the entire village, and draws you in.
In short, download this level today. Luquado gives it two thumbs up! |
