Don't get sucked down a Black Hole

If there's one lesson from the long readme file attached to this map it would be the above. What we are given to play is a mixture of, well, almost everything. Appears the map is a fusion of ancient temple, tarydium mine and techno-warehouse. Decorations, good visuals and attention to detail puncuate the entire level. Three traps complement gameplay, 2 ala pressure with the invisibility and armor as baits, and the not-so-effective smashing crane over minigun. The biggest asset this map has is it's shear size, able to accomodate upto 16 bots comfortably, the only drawback would be the distance to acquire firepower even with "weapons stay" set to True.

Fun: If you like Single Player style maps with tons of atmosphere.

Playability: All the detail + polys will drag down even higher spec systems.

Bots: Without lag Bots put up an excellent fight, they however don't know anything about Translocators and can be gotten the better of if you're a telefraggin' TL jumpin' kind of player.

Flow: Connectivity is good, except in the mines (of course), yet the Room-Corridor-Room layout and long distances make this anything but an arena map.

Items: A learning curve will prevent new players from dominating the map by camping the choicer power-ups. Only the 8-Ball seemed to have too much surrounding support items making it a key to ownership over our bot buddies.

Theme: Readme included, the ancient parts even with the nice visuals felt outa place.

Architecture: Lots of brushes and believable construction for the most part. A very solid map with typical Z-Axis augmentation.

Lighting: Without a Voodoo card this map will be dark, and in the mines extremely dark. Sourcing and placement is otherwise accomplished with proffesional quality.

Textures: Drawing heavily on SGTech1 (From Bonus Pack 4)and RichRig (included in the zip), the large download also comprises of a complimentary mylevel textures and samples from nearly every standard set shipped with the game. Transistion/Selection/Scale all pass even close inspection.

Sound: Oh yes, another file in the zip for a custom umx called "Domatron". S'okay by me but drowns out the ambients/trigger sounds that populate the map.

Maybe this map will run better on the higher-poly friendly U2 engine, yet compatability is still a question and do we really want to wait? What I want to stress is this is a "showcase" map in my opinion. Not useful in today's online internet play or even for details set high on the fastest rigs around against bots. DM-TimeCrash by Willy-"Mister Prophet"-Drekker is technically a first rate map that sacrifices arena-like playability for single-player visuals. Worth a look with a 6 meg download, and entertaining on my home box if I kept the bot count down around 8.

not my taste in mapage.

I liked this one, it actually runs on my computer. Refreshing larged sized map to play over all these 1 on 1, small maps lately.

I am too busy staring at this map to put it away yet. However the poor performance keeps the score down. Oh well, I think he achieved what he wanted with the theme, which is the main objective for this map, I believe.

5. he directly copied the gas chamber from alcatraz. some things were cool, but mostly it was unbalanced, no gameplay. twrecks said it, its more sp style, but all that means is the layuot makes absolutely no sense :P

I almost reviewed it :) but it didnt run well enough to get a 7.5 from me :P layout=not so great, visuals=nice, gameplay=not so great

David 'DAVIDM' Münnich Rating: 5
5- Don't like that one, that building style is very sloppy and messy, performance sucks @ßß, no gameplay at all.......

I basically made this just to see how far I could go, I never planned for it to get so big. Gameplay will turn off alot of you guys since it is unlike all the smaller maps that are popular. I don't care really, I rate it low myself anyway. It was made for graphix, before I had a handle on gameplay. This is an old map by me, I've evolved quite a bit since I released this a few years ago.

For the record, I didn't copy the gas chamber from DM-alcatraz, I made a pressure chamber that used richrig textures...sorry if anything righ rig looks like David made it.

I like the visuals in the map, and the playability isn't as bad as everyone is saying. It's a fresh change of pace from the "DavidM clones" running around - nothing against them though; it's just nice to have something different out there. I don't really agree with the 10 on architecture or sound. The map has good sound, but if the music makes the ambients almost nonexistent, is it really a 10?

Twrecks Rating: 9
I stand by my 7.5 This is NOT an average "5" map! As to 10 for Architecture, The variation and magnitude of the map gets extra credit. 10 for sound, groovin custom UMX and LOTS of good ambients. Just a note: adjust your sliders ppl :)

its not diff from a davidm clone, for goodness sake the gas chamber is directly from alcatraz, probably even the same brushes ;P its just 2 themes in one

Oldskool! I like big maps and I like maps that push the limits of the engine and editor. I run a reasonably highend system so there were no performance issues at all. Love that oldskool feel....
