Another good cryptic textured map. The first thing which I noticed in this map, was the smoothness. DM-Thursday uses quite a low overall polycount, but manages to look good because of the good architecture and lighting, and as the flow is good, this map is very enjoyable map to play. There are some quite dull and colorless corridors, but the innovative design of the main areas will give a good impression from the map.
Even though this map has no "real" theme, it has the same feel all around it, but doesn't feel boring at all due to the great landmarks all around, which ease up determing your location. There aren't many ambient sounds, but there isn't need for them as map like this doesn't need more than some ambient winds. I didn't put much care to sounds, as I was so busy listening to Nightwish's new album. Damn it does rock =). The music is (of course) included, and has a nicely fitting tone in it. Cryptic textures aren't the easiest ones to get the great look with, but DavidM uses them with skill. The textures have enough variety and mix up with the lighting nicely. Windows and holes in the roof give a nice white lighting, as teleports are surrounded by blue light and rest of the map is quite brown.
Item placement is nothing less than admirable. Items are laid out just as they should be. All important items are either in places with great arcitechtural advantage for their defenders, or leave you very exposed. Even though the item placement would be a good one for teamgame, I wouldn't call this a TDM map. The rooms are VERY large, and the map has a circular shape with corridors as wide as small rooms. This causes long distances which leads in slow connectivity, and as the map is large enough to hold 12-16 players, this mostly feels like a FFA biased map.
Almost all of the rooms have at least two floors in them, so you can always get attacked from below or above, and as lifts are quite rare, there is a real advantage of being in the second floor. A bit like Clawfist's great Meldrak][. This map reminds me a bit from DM-Helleth too, but it just is a lot better than it. At least In my opinion...
If you want to play some nice FFA with lots of people, you really can't afford to miss this one.
