DM-TheStack is a Goldeneye 64 conversion. I've never played Goldeneye, so this map must stand on its own merits. I remember playing simple boards: Wolfenstein and othersÖman, you can't go back. It's like asking if you want to give up your Pentium III for a 286. Times change, stuff gets better.
This map has a bunch of bare rooms, some glass that breaks, catwalks for vertical fun, and some doors that slide up into the ceiling (very slowly). Bare rooms are not very interesting, albeit void of lag -breaking glass is cool, z-axis good, slow doors in DMÖnot good. There is a large, square arena, some smaller rooms with glass as the front wall (I guess), and hallways. Player Starts were not turned to any particular direction, so be prepared to turn around and fight every so often.
Some of the textures were from the "eol" package, which is one that people hardly use. It was nice to see some of it used. The sliding doors match their surroundings, but not so much that they're hidden.
The bots did a good job. They like to run right through the panes of glass, never seeming to get cut up. The item placement was also pretty good. There is a room that has a bunch of power-ups, a minigun, and enough ammo for another Gulf War, but it appears as though this is just eye candy. At least, I wasn't able to figure a way in, and neither did the bots.
The lighting was bright white. I think this is another attempt to stick with the theme. Lighting in UT can be so realistic, and it seems a waste to use "Wolfenstein" lighting, if you catch my drift. It's like using a Lamborghini to haul manure. You have some breaking glass sounds, and some music to listen to.
